There are many verses throughout saying Muhammad is not a guardian over the people and to just leave ignorant people alone etc. Here is one example
480 Whoever obeys the messenger has obeyed God; and whoever turns away, We have not sent you as a guardian over them.2256 There is no compulsion in the system; the proper way has been made clear from the wrong way. Whoever rejects evil, and believes in God, then he has grasped the most solid branch that will never break. God is Hearer, Knower.

6104 ?Visible proofs have come to you from your Lord; so whoever can see, does so for himself, and whoever is blinded, does the same. I am not a watcher over you.?

Revile not you those whom they call upon besides Allah, lest they out of spite revile Allah in their ignorance. Thus have WE MADE ALLURING TO EACH PEOPLE ITS OWN DOINGS. In the end will they return to their Lord, and We shall then tell them the truth of all that they did.
To every People have We appointed rites and ceremonies which they must follow. let them not then dispute with you on the matter, but do you invite (them) to thy Lord. for you art assuredly on the Right Way.
To you We sent the book in truth, confirming WHAT IS BETWEEN YOUR TWO HANDS from Al Kitab, and guarding it in safety. so judge between them by what Allah has revealed, and follow not their vain desires, diverging from the Truth that has come to you.?? To each among you have we prescribed a law and an open way / minkum shirAAatan wa minhajan. If Allah had so willed, He would have made you a single people, but (His plan is) to test you in what He has given you. so strive as in a race in all virtues. The goal of you all is to Allah; it is He that will show you the truth of the matters in which you dispute;

can anyone think of a verse that asks us not to impose our islamic principles apon non-believers ?

Respectfully.I can'r remember the exact verse and the chapter but God says in The Quran"If they want to believe, let them believe, if they want to disbelieve, let them disbelieve.
AlsoThere is no compulsion in the system.
AlsoGod can make all people believe,
Also God can make all people but few follow satan.God can do ALL.
Who are we to force anyone into anything especially belief which isn't seen?
