Nearly a Quranist - need to take the leap!

Hi everyone i'm new here and I think might be a Quranist but i'm not sure! Perhaps you would be kind enough to help? I was brought up as a sunni muslim by a strict sunni mother and a liberal sunni father. My father always advised me from a young age not to consult any books on Islam except for the Quran as he said they are all opinion-based. He also taught me the difference between tradition and religion. Having taken my father's advice, I only ever consulted the Quran and grew up happy with my faith and believing that men and women were created equal. In my adult life I found my beliefs as a muslim woman, taken purely from the Quran, conflicted with traditionanal views on muslim women. I was made to feel like a bad muslim by peers for what they call feminist beliefs and they made me feel so alien to my faith that I started to wonder whether I had the right one. I joined an educational group and through them studied the problems with Hadeeths, which explained the discrepencies and this put my mind at rest. Now my problem is taking the next step. I learned of Quranism recently over the net so excuse my ignorance but are there different types? For example, I don't want to follow Dr Rashads school of thought but I don't know whether you can be Quranist and ignore his theory on the code? I've also read somewhere that stating the shahada with Mohammad's name pbuh could be construed as making partners with God? Is this a part of the Quranist belief? Apart from those minor areas of confusion I think my beliefs are completley in line with those of a Quranist. The next step for me is learning more and trying to shake off years of sunni habits, practice and upbringing through my mother's influence. Has anyone else been through this? How did the family react? Are there any support groups in the uk where I could meet others and learn more? Thanks in advance.

Welcome.
You can have your own beliefs and you do NOT need to conform to anyone, or any group's belief system or practice.
Keep to your father's advice and consult the quran, not a group's creed that follows the quran, or claims to follow the quran. If you do agree with the findings of a group, you're already believing in and perhaps following those beliefs. If you disagree with other parts of the group you are not a part of that group.

How can you follow the code? Follow God and the exemplars He has given for you benefit .

Put your faith in God. There are people who follow the quran here and among the various other factions who believe in different things. Take the responsibility on your own shoulders .

There are indeed "different" types. Just read the forums for a couple of weeks and you will see a lot of debates. But what most of us share in common is we are trying to follow the Quran.

I don't see how saying Mohammad is God's messenger is shirk. But the Quran does have the following
631 When the hypocrites come to you they say ?We bear witness that you are the messenger of God.? And God knows that you are His messenger, and God bears witness that the hypocrites are liars.
In other words, it doesn't matter what you say if you don't believe what you are saying.

by the way, we are not Quranists. The word Quranist does not exist in the Quran and is completely man-made title/concept. People on this forum are muslims and mumins

No need to apologize Tulip ) Just like you in the beginning i thought that we should call ourselves Quranists. I actually used this term for weeks before i understood that it has nothing to do with Islam and will divide muslim into another sect. I salute you for being open-minded and accepting the truth (chaning your opinion about the word Quranist). It takes a lot of courage and open-mindedness to admit ones mistakes. I can see you already have started to ask Questions about Islam and Quran (In threads). Mashallah. I am a big fan of asking questions myself. It was asking Questions that led me to the through. Alhamdulliah, I've been down your path before, and I guess I'll say the same advice everyone has Read the Qu'ran. Just because some Muslims believe in the 19 code doesn't mean its the truth. ) Just trust yourself and your belief in Allah and Insha'Allah, you will stay on the straight path.Peace peace

Me too and many of us think that deleting two verses from Quran is a Great Sin.

Understanding Shrik is what you will learn here in this Forum. Shirk in general is to associate Lies with God religion. and that is why submitter stick to the Quran when we speak about God.And by the Way, I'm not a Quranist but I'm MOSLEM--Submitter. I love the name that Prophet Abraham gave to me and Allah approved it. In other words, many of us are like you.

Quranic evidence for Abraham naming anything?
I assume you are referring to 2278, however the evidence clearly suggests "He" refers to God
huwa sammakumu almuslimeena min qablu wafee hatha
He named you al muslimeen from before and in this -
I definately understand this verse as, our forefather Abraham, named us muslims. And this he did by thinking about God. Is it the moon, who controls all? Is it the sun? No, it is he who controls all, I worship, and I surrender my will into Islam, the religion which he then created. That doesn't mean that Islam didn't exist before, just that he made it known, and gave it a name.

When reading 2278, I can understand, as an arabic speaker, that the arabic wods "huwa sammakumu almuslimeena min qablu wafee hatha" refers to Abraham. And "Wa Fee Haza" (and In this) is related to the next sentence
(
"Wa Fee Haza lee Yakoon Al-Rasool Shahidon Aliakom" (and in this the Messanger will be a witness against You)
Now, when I read 2-128, I can tell when Abraham named us Moslems(

"Our Lord! Make of us Muslims bowing to Thy and of our progeny a people Muslim bowing to Thy and show us our places for the celebration of rites; and turn unto us (in Mercy); for Thou art the Oft-Returning Most-Merciful. (2-12If you think I missed on that one, please let me know.

Thank you for pointing this verse; I would say that in 10-72 Noha was talking about himself, but in 2-128, Abraham was talking about us. As the Torah and the Quran tell us, Abraham was so worried about his future generations; and that is why he asked God to make them Moslmeen (submitters). and therefore, in 22-78, God is referring to Abraham request.
