Who would you pick?

So, if you had the choice, who would you pick?

A believer-- prays, fasts, and does all the things required of a Muslim, in general. However, this man isn't very open-minded and judges very quickly. He reads the Quran daily but never seems to be affected by its teachings. He keeps a beard, is modest in his dress, but fails to display himself that way, in terms of his personality. He sometimes says things without thinking of the other?s feelings. He only gives charity to impress others. He thinks of himself before others. Yet he calls himself a good Muslim.
A disbeliever-- doesn?t believe in God. Doesn?t believe the Quran is God?s word. Instead, believes in science and philosophy. Yet, he strives to make others around him feel good about themselves, and his ultimate goal is to make a difference in this world. He finds the good in everything, even in what may seem completely wrong. He?s amazingly bright and observant, honest, very logical and practical. Although he doesn?t pray, he tries his best to seek the real truth, whatever it may be. He also seems to have good intentions. He has a kind heart and a very knowledgeable mind?he just doesn?t believe.

I?m assuming most of you would pick the latter, seeing as everyone would love a guy who?s honest and good hearted. But there might be some out there who would prefer the religious over the non-religious?or in this case, not even a follower of religion. I?m just very curious to see who everyone would pick, and why.

It all comes down to the question Who is better?a believer that scarcely does any good?or a non-believer who endeavors to be good in his own way?

I?d love to read everyone?s input on this.

I think you have got the word "believer" mixed up. This is the true definition of believer
4914 The Nomads said ?We believe.? Say ?You have not believed; but you should say ?We have submitted?, for belief has not yet entered into your hearts.? If you obey God and His messenger, He will not put any of your works to waste. God is Forgiver, Merciful.
4915 Believers are those who believe in God and His messenger, then they became without doubt, and they strive with their money and their lives in the cause of God. These are the truthful ones.

A believer that scarcely does any good is not a believer in my opinion. The believer's actions in your question seems to contradict Islamic teachings, and therefore he cannot be a believer in the true sense.

If person 2 was indeed a philosopher and interested in finding the truth and was open to ideas, I believe that sooner or later he would come to Islam. Whereas person 1 sounds like the type of person that thinks he knows everything about religion and therefore does not have to learn more about it.
Although the model of the disbeliever that you have posed must be extremely rare because I have never come upon such a person.

Yes, that's a very good way of describing a true believer. And trust me, there are some Muslims out there who are such hypocrites. They say one thing, but do another.

Based on the 2 choices you described. I think would wait and hope God gives me a better choice in the future. Personally I look at marriage as the only "legal" pathway for a man and women to be together. And if you are looking to marry in order to please God, then you can only marry a believer.

However even "disbelievers" marry nowadays which I find completely illogical (boyfriend/girlfriend thing is alot less stressful).
