salam thesilverlining. there is no respect for those who forge lies against allah. no respect for those who commit shirk by adding words to the quran. no respect for those who mislead believers. they earn their own sins and the sins of those they have misled with their lies.

allah is the only one worthy of respect.

        Peace Al Araf,

I was mainly speaking in terms of the topic of discussion ie. having multiple wives. Respect the dignity, privacy and freedom of the woman in your life just as you would expect her to respect yours.

there is no limit on the number of wives a momin can have in the quran.

Momin is not the same thing as a muslim. And of course you meant there was a limit of four?

                      i said

                      allah exposes falsehood.

I asked a question, quite different from making a statement.

                      Please reread what I wrote.

Since you didn't say there was a limit of four, which I suspected you didn't, perhaps you should take note of that which the god sanctions, is what the god demands. Anything beyond that is overstepping the god's commands. Since the god only mentions with two, three or four women (for those who are worried about orphans and their mothers) if one can be just to them, otherwise only one for marriage, or those other ones.

Please provide how you got to the idea of no upper limit.

salam far. you ask how did i get to this idea of no upper limit.

i did not get to this idea. the upper limit does not exist when i read the quran.

you have seen the same as me, that the prophet was told he could have no more wives, except from those his right hand posess.

you have also seen the verses that talk about having two, or three, or four wives, and you have seen it does not contain a prohibition for any more wives, like the prohibition placed on the prophet.

when you use the term limit, or had, the only person who can limit is allah. allah has not placed a limit on the number of wives. if allah does not place a limit on the number of wives, it would be shirk for anyone to place a limit.

obviously allah knows how to place a limit if that was his intention. he demonstrated his ability to place a limit when he limited the prophet. allah had no intention to limit others in the number of wives, otherwise, he would have plainly said, as he said to the prophet, that rajal, cannot have more than four nisa or zawj, and would not have needed a separate ayat to prohibit the prophet.

                        allah is the lawgiver.

Very well, if there is no limit term used, then the god provides a range value for the amount of women you can marry. Anything beyond that is surely adding to the god's words, no? Quran 234

salam. the people who make claims, like marry only those you can manage sensibly, have only themselves as authorities for their claims.

if allah wished to say this he would have said that. he did not say that.

no amount of listening to the quran for the sake of a lie, will justify the lies.

                                salam far. no.

your question betrays a lack of understanding of law. laws are prohibitions, tahrim, those things made haram.

laws are not a collection of the things allowed. to expect the law to state, this is allowed, that is allowed would result in a ridiculous situation. let me give you an example. let us say, a law states four wives are permitted, then the law states five wives are permitted, then the law states six wives are permitted, ad nauseaum. the law if written like this will result in a catastrophically huge impossible to manage writing.

do not expect to see in a law, this is allowed, that is allowed. the legal rule is "silence is assent" in other words when the quran is silent on a subject, it constitutes the assent of allah. the term mubah is the arabic equivalent for this concept. if allah is silent on an issue, it is permitted. allah is silent on the maximum number of wives, therefore allah has no intention of limiting the number of wives, there is no limit.

                                allah is the lawgiver.

It amazes me how the very people who insist on calling others liars, running from thread to thread insulting people, slandering people, are the same people calling EACH other liars.... yes

The Quran defines this behavior in human beings as a negative personality trait.....

Those who brought forward the lie are a body/gang group among yourselves / jaoo bi-ifki ausbatun minkum. think it not to be an evil to you; On the contrary it is good for you. to every man among them (will come the punishment) of the sin that he earned, and to him who took on himself the lead among them, will be a penalty grievous.

Allah challenges the True Muslim Mumin/Believer to expose these people ....

Why did not the believers - men and women - when you heard of the affair,- put the best construction on it in their own minds and say, "This is an obvious lie" ?

An-Nur 24.15] Behold, you received it on your tongues, and said out of your mouths things of which you had no knowledge; and you thought it to be a light matter, while it was most serious in the sight of Allah.

And why did you not, when you heard it, say? - "It is not right of us to speak of this. Glory to Allah! this is a most serious slander!"

These individuals claiming they can have 2,3 and 4 wives are just slandering Allah's guidance. They cannot change the Allah's words, so they resort to slandering not only the Quran but those who uphold the Quran.

Again, Sura Nisa 4.3 is NOT speaking about marrying 2,3 and 4 wives its referring to divorce. This 'pimping', 'prostituting' perception and behavior originates in the imagination, ego's and lust of Men.

The 'Sunnah' that has been in practice in regards to human social interaction has been marriage, a life long commitment to ONE individual, this has been the 'Sunnah' throughout human history and continues today.

Sunnata Allahi among those who lived aforetime. No change will you find in the sunnati Allahi.

salam simple. polygyny is wajib. polygyny is not fard, haram, or makruh.

I am not saying that ?fard? means obligation/obligatory as I haven?t checked all occurrances in the Quran, but according to 33/37-39, polygyny is ?fard? upon the prophets/messengers and the believers, past and present

33/37 And when you said to him to whom Allah had shown favor and to whom you had shown a favor Keep your wife to yourself and be careful of (your duty to) Allah; and you concealed in your soul what Allah would bring to light, and you feared men, and Allah had a greater right that you should fear Him. But when Zaid had accomplished his want of her, We gave her to you as a wife, so that there should be no difficulty for the believers in respect of the wives of their adopted sons, when they have accomplished their want of them; and Allah's command shall be performed.

33/38 There is no difficulty in the Prophet doing that which Allah has made "farz? for him; such has been the course of Allah with respect to those who have gone before; and the command of Allah is a decree that is made absolute

33/30 Those who deliver the messages of Allah and fear Him, and do not fear any one but Allah; and Allah is sufficient to take account

Is there any indication in these verses that this was not his first marriage, or whether he was already married or not?
