Is Allah speaking directly to you throught the Quran?

In many translations I've come across verses where the Quran says "you" and right after it in parenthesis it say (mohammed) or (prophet). Since the reading is for everyone for all time, isn't the "you" the person who is reading?
Any insight?

Salaam Zarmina,

It is supposed to be a message for the jinn/insana. 'You' may not necessarily mean 'you' the reader or hearer, but the person to whom the writ is being narrated or to a general populace.

Except for a few ayats, "YOU" mentioned in Quran addressed to who reads and recites and reflects.

For example Say Allah, He is One! By this, Allah asks you to say " Allah, He is One ! ", to the people of your community, first having satisfied your soul regarding the Truth in such claim. For you cannot say what you do not or appreciate not. To say what you do not amounts to transgression of the Law, inviting Allah's curse upon yourself

My answer is YES, this reading is talking to YOU, the reader.

I believe it's talking to the reader most of the times. I always had that feeling when I was reading it, even when I was a sunni. wink

In arabic, there is you singular and you plural.

When it is in singluar form God is addressing the prophet, which means that whatever is said doesn't apply to us, unless it says something like

"you (muhammed) tell the believers to do etc etc"

when in plural form it is addressing everyone.

The Quran is for everyone, including Muhammed who somtimes needed one-to-one instructions - we're lucky to have them recorded in the quran.

This is one of many reasons why we don't need bukhari, it's all in the quran.

Not only through Quran. Through Quran Allah just makes us understand He speaks to us all the time if you call upon Him. so not to commit shirk when in need of Guidance on any matter. Allah is always ready to speak to us anytime. When speaks, it will be an explanation of an ayat/the ayats you shall find in The Book. The explanation, the Guidance from Him to the caller thus, is Al Quran. Otherwise what We have in our hand is The Book, as Allah call us, we are just " Ahlul Kitab"

Those who have no understanding say Why does Allah not speak to us or a sign come to us? Even thus said those before them, the like of what they say; their hearts are all alike. Indeed We have made the communications clear for a people who are sure, that Allah will speak.

And when My servants ask you concerning Me, then surely I am very near; I answer when he calls on Me, so they should answer My call and believe in Me that they may walk in the right way.
