    Salaams

(Please note the translations here are not entirely correct ,but we are therefore only looking at the fasting days only).

So when are fasting days? to me.

To know this you must read the previous ayats ,sura 2 ayats180 to 184. 2185 is just recomanding us to fast on just such occasions so by stopping our talking and stop our coupling up(just in the days though-2187) we can comprehend and recoup ourselves for God Allmighty and thereby remove the evils in our ways.

2185(sorry this ayat isn't from a previous translated quran, but my post from the other topics)

of your parading cast/throw the evilness /niggerdilness /stinginess that was revealed in it the quran a guidance for mankind and clear proofs of the guidance and the criterion ,who whosoever witnesses amongst you such parading he should fast(remove/ expunge) it and whosoever is sick or on journey (the same) number of days other wants Allah for you ease and not want for you hardship so that you complete the number and that you should magnify Allah on that he guided you so that you may give thanks.

I have just come accross four places where the number of days Allah has specifiedAGAIN IT IS TO REMOVE THE EVILS OF YOUR WAYS WHICH IS USUALY EXPLAINED AROUND ABOUT THE AYATS I AM GIVING HERE.

    1. God will not hold you for your unintentional oaths, but He will hold you for what oaths you have made binding; its cancellation shall be the feeding of ten poor from the average of what you feed your family, or that you clothe them, or that you free a slave; whoever cannot find shall fast for three days; this is a cancellation for making your oaths when you swear. And be careful from making oaths. It is such that God clarifies for you His revelations that you may be thankful.

Just as a side note here are some other places we should fast ?during.

    1. If he cannot find any, then he shall fast two consecutive months before any sexual contact between them. If he cannot, then he shall feed sixty poor people. That is so you would believe in God and His messenger. And these are the limits set by God. The disbelievers have incurred a painful retribution.

    2. And it is not for a believer to kill another believer except by accident. And whoever kills a believer by accident, then he shall set free a believing slave, and give compensation to the family; except if they remit it. If he was from a people who are enemies to you, and he was a believer, then you shall set free a believing slave. And if he was from a people between whom you had a covenant, then a compensation to his family, and set free a believing slave. Whoever does not find, then the fasting of two months sequentially as a repentance from God; God is Knowledgeable, Wise.

    3. And complete the Pilgrimage and the visit for God. But, if you are prevented, then make what is affordable of donation, and do not shave your heads until the donation reaches its destination; but whoever of you is ill or has an affliction to his head, then he may redeem by fasting or giving a charity or a sacrifice. But if you are able, then whoever continues the visit until the Pilgrimage, then he shall provide what is affordable of donation; but for he who cannot find anything, then he must fast for three days during the Pilgrimage and seven when he returns; this will make a complete ten; this is for those whose family is not present at the Restricted Temple. And be aware of God, and know that God is severe in retribution.

Welcome to give me ayats where this philosophy does not hold water.

    Salaam you good people.

    However A debate is welcome.

      Peace

Fasting is abstention from whatever you have earned from the wolrd as worldly material benefits using your 'testy' knowledge during the day hours/working hours for, you consider them, in your deep rememberance - in dikr - as bad earnings and bad ways of life too to get lured towards them.

        Peace be upon you MZ,

I am leaning towards abstaining as being not having sex or talking dring the day. I have no proof yet, only conjecture, but while I was reading your understanding above, it made me think about how some people are to abstain 3 days during "hajj".

Now for me, hajj is debating. There is also the Great debate, which is for all of mankind to come to. It would make sense that one would abstain from talking and sex, because refraining from sex is thought to give you the needed mental energy, and not talking allows you to LISTEN. What better discipline for a time where the God's Debate is being recited?

I am still trying to put it all together though.
