Silly question
-
Salam everyone
I have a silly question to ask, but I will ask it anyway. I have very low self esteem and frequently suffer from anxiety, fear and terror. I've been to therapists but it is really not working. Is there a quranic cure? And how does Quran view therapy, is it accpted and to what extent?
Thanks

I have found reading, reciting and studying the Quran to be a therapy in itself... It really cure you from all kind of evils and boost your confidence. The key is, reading with understanding... Parrotting is of no use IMHO.

Peace to all,
First of all confused, this is not a silly question, its a very important one for you and many others, I also like wayfinders answer, the Quran does help, but ultimately it is God that helps and cures you. There is no reason for you to have low self esteem, you are a significant and unique person, noone else is like you, God created you and only you for some purpose, God does not make mistakes, also, my friend, have no fear,, that is the root of all your anxiety and terror and panics, it all stems from fear, but there is nothing to be afraid of , I can assure you everything works out for the good, all things tend towards God. Also remember, if God wishes you harm , no one can help you, and if God wishes to help you you, noone can harm, so there is absolutley nothing to fear except GOd, and you need not fear him if you live life according to his will, just try to do good deeds, be good to people, and believe in and submit yourself completely and willfully to God and only God, he will take care of you, he never breaks his promises.
So, have no fear of the unknown and irrational, they have no power over you, only God does,
Peace brother,
Kurt

Salaam,
I can really recommend Louise Hay

She really helped me after my divorce and was in a depression. After that I discovered Anthony Robbins

Most of his work has been truly motivating. You can download some of his work here as a torrent

Emotions are road signs that try to show you a hidden truth you conciously haven't understood yet. Anger is most of the time energy that is misplaced as it could not be expressed in the way you wanted. Fear is the idea you cannot control your life i.e. the situations you experience, or you believe you do not have the power to do so. You have to search for the reason why you believe you do not have the power i.e. the self-esteem. It is a form of self-sabotage that comes from not accepting things that happened in the past.
In any case, this is how I experienced it. Louise Hay's work showed me my thought patterns, and Robbins how to transform them.
The Qur'an teaches us that life has a purpose, developing mankind through your actions (1317), and that you make yourself, you design your own life (11114, 440, ). And that after death, existence contineous, and so fear is useless in life. Act rightfully, and you will see the results in your life. Your happiness is not determined directly by your beauty, wealth or health, but by understanding that your life has a purpose and thus must be lived as such. From there on you can work on the other issues. Your beauty is determined by your confidence in your abilities and the purpose of your life, not the materialistic factors.
1697 Whoever - male or female - does works that help others and is a Mum'in (upholder of peace and safety), We shall certainly cause them to live a good life, and We shall grant them the rewards considering the best of their actions.
1830 As for those who do amina (upholding peace) and do works that help others, certainly, We never fail to reward such benefactors of humanity.

I agree with all the replies. Please allow me to share with you the root of your Fear or any humans Fear.Fear is a combination of Emotions that Humans' Brain produces due to known Environmental Stimuli.
Humans' Brain reacts to what are stored in memory in regard to such stimuli. For example, When young, a human tends to explore and learn about the environment; while learning, we experience pain sometimes, such as touching electric wires; and when he or she experiences the pain of getting electrocuted, he will always remember not to touch or come too close to an electric wire (He or she will have a panic attack if they come close to wire). Such learning experience will be stored with its fear emotions that will guide humans to not touch the electric wire.
Thus, in your situation, you had tough your brain to react to pacific stimuli as to the electric wire; the difference is the electric wire is a harm to your body, but the other stimuli that you might had stored are harms to your psychological part. Examples, If I raise my voice in front of my boss, I will loose my job; if I wear pink color shirt, my girl friend will break up with me; if I do not fast, I will go to hellfire; if I make a mistake when speaking to people, they will make fun of me...etc. Thus, your brain will produce the fear emotions that will make you not to act in a way that would harm your psychological part or would produce it when sensing an environmental stimuli that is related to such harm.My advice to you, reprogram your brain by teaching it about what constitute harms; as the Quran tell us, no harm will happen to you except what God's allow.
Confused, I hope I did not confuse you more
By the way, we are discussing about human emotions in this thread
