Let them judge by the 'Good News' !!
-
Peace all,
HELP!! In traditional Muslim thinking, God revealed several Books to past prophets. The Torah to Moses, The Gospel to Jesus, and the Psalms to David. The problem is that the name of these revelations have meanings.
The Torah-The Law
The Evangel-The Good News
The Psalms-The SongsNow, the Quran says that let the people of the Gospel judge by what God has revealed therein. This doesn't make sense because the Gospel is not a Torah. The Gospel is not even a name of a scripture. It simply means Good News. You can write your own gospel if you have some good news you want to share. The Christian gospels anounces the good news of Jesus Christ dying for the sins of Mankind and the advents of the Kingdon of God. Thats why the accuracy of the Gospels are not that important because the glad tidings are at the end the same even without corruptions or deletions. It will still remain. So when we say the Gospel of Mark. It doesn't mean this is the divine revelation given to Jesus as far as Mark remembers. It means this is Good News Mark wants to share. A happy birthday card may use different lines but it is still celebrating your birthday. The Quran also says that God taught Jesus the Good News!! Good News of what??? His crucifixion? The Kingdom of God??
Was the Quran unaware of this? or is there something else?
The problem also extends to the word Torah which means Law. If there is something called The Torah. How can there be another law outside it. So the Quran also contain a Torah. Even Abraham in Genesis had his Torah. The Quran use the Torah as a singular scripture which contradicts the meaning of the word.

544 We have sent down the Torah, in it is guidance and a light; the prophets who have submitted judged with it for those who are Jews, as well as the Rabbis, and the Priests, for what they were entrusted of God?s Scripture, and they were witness over. So do not fear the people but fear Me; and do not purchase with My revelations a cheap price. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the rejecters.
546 And We sent in their footsteps Jesus the son of Mary, authenticating what was present with him of the Torah. And We gave him the Injeel, in it is guidance and light, and to authenticate what is present with him of the Torah, and a guidance and lesson for the righteous.
547 And let the people of the Injeel judge with what God has sent down in it. And whoever does not judge with what God has sent down, then these are the vile ones.548 And We have sent down to you the Scripture with truth, authenticating what is present of the Scripture and superseding it. So judge between them by what God has sent down, and do not follow their desires from what has come to you of the truth. For each of you We have made laws, and a structure; and had God willed, He would have made you all one nation, but He tests you with what He has given you; so strive to do good. To God you will return all of you, and He will inform you regarding that in which you dispute.
All the Books have Laws and Guidance, according to the above verses. The name of the Book has nothing to do with its content.

PeacePeace BelH,
Well, thats the heart of the problem. If all contains guidance and light why call one the Law, the other Good News and the last the Recitation. It should be called the Torah of Moses, the Torah of Jesus, and the Torah of Mohammed. If we assumed that the 'hikma' means Torah then why call the Book of Moses The Torah?

Peace Rami,
What made you form the conclusion that the word "INJIL" means "good news"? What makes you believe that this wasn't an actual scripture (book) given to Jesus during his ministry?
The problem also extends to the word Torah which means Law. If there is something called The Torah. How can there be another law outside it. So the Quran also contain a Torah. Even Abraham in Genesis had his Torah. The Quran use the Torah as a singular scripture which contradicts the meaning of the word.
This is also false. The Hebrew word "Torah" (TVRH) means "teaching", not law. The scriptures clearly state that there is only one Torah, and all other scriptures are simply confirmations of the Torah. This includes the Qur'aan, the Injeel, the Psalms, and all other scriptures revealed after it... According to the Hebrew scriptures, Abraham lived in harmony with the seven Noahide mitzvot (commandments), and the Torah was revealed later to the children of Israel, through Moses. That's why the entire Tanakh, the Injeel, the Qur'aan, and all other inspired scriptures are said to confirm and explain the Torah.

Peace Bilal,

What does Injil mean then? It is not an Arabic word. Did you know that the Christian Arabs call their scriptures Injil because of the Muslims. The word Injil should be translated as 'Bushara' or Good News. It is a Greek word that has a meaning like the Quran should translated as the Recitation.
This is also false. The Hebrew word "Torah" (TVRH) means "teaching", not law. The scriptures clearly state that there is only one Torah, and all other scriptures are simply confirmations of the Torah.
The problem you listen to the Jews blindly. It is the same mistake we fall to. We say that the Book, the Hikma and the Quran are all one thing. Lets review a verse from the "Torah".
1628 Yahweh said to Moses, "How long do you refuse to keep my commandments and my laws?
1628 VY'aMUr YHVH 'aL-MShH 'yD-'aNH M'aNThM LShMUr MTShVThY VThVUrThY.See the Mitzva(Commandments) and the Torah(Law) are actually two different things. So anyone who tells you that the Torah is made of 613 mitzvot has no idea what he is talking about. If you do the Mitzvah, you will untouched by the Torah.
Thou shall not commit Adultery. = Mitvah(Hikma?) = continous application.
Stone to death. = Torah = conditional targeted application.Abraham lived in harmony with the seven Noahide mitzvot (commandments), and the Torah was revealed later to the children of Israel, through Moses. That's why the entire Tanakh, the Injeel, the Qur'aan, and all other inspired scriptures are said to confirm and explain the Torah.
Tanakh means TNK = Torah, Neviim, Ketubim. Cheesy name. Thats why the Quran never uses it. The seven Noahide laws is not found in the Torah, as YHWH is Israel's national God and don't really care about what other nation worship, all that he wants is that his people refrain from commiting fornication with the gods of other nations.
