quick question ; What is the right way?
-
Hmm, difficult to say, depends on what it is. Can you clarify?
If whatever it is is clearly allowed according to The Quran, and your parents are forbidding it, then this is akin to forbidding something allowed by God, which is a very dangerous position to take.

You're right Wakas.
It is difficult to say without knowing specifics.
I think the 'forbidding something allowed by God' rule only applies in matters of Deen or religion, not for example when they forbid their child to stay out with their friends after dark, which I think is important to control with the issues in our cities, obeying or disobeying God is not at question here, it's the obeying the parents bit which would be most important as they are only looking after you and ensuring that you don't stay out after dark where dangers to people increase with the druggies walking the streets, they're only trying to reduce the risk of you getting hurt.

Thanks for your replies.
What I meant was that if you have an ambition for example that you want to achieve and all you need it your parents permisson. But they wont let you.
is it wrong to go for it anyway. An example. (this doens't apply to me by the way)
A person wasnt to become a artist/painter. Their parents might thing that painting is haraam and wrong and obviously it isn't. At this point is it disobeying your parents if you go for it anyway?Peace. )

peace,
An example. (this doens't apply to me by the way)
A person wasnt to become a artist/painter. Their parents might thing that painting is haraam and wrong and obviously it isn't. At this point is it disobeying your parents if you go for it anyway? It would be interesting to study the exact wording of the parent verses. It seems to say show them kindness/gratitude, and obey them not in matters of comprimising one's faith, e.g. shirk / associating partners.
"shirk" has a very wide scope. In fact, it has such a significant scope, that I consider it a must study, e.g. here.
Thus, an appropriate question is could it be classed as "shirk" what they are asking of you? Yes, in my opinion. "shirk" on their part that is.
If it was me, and I believed what I was doing was in accordance with AQ, then I would explain my point of view with evidence to my parents, and ask them to respect my decision. Then, depending on level of hostility of reaction and/or repercussions, I would decide whether to pursue it or not.
Misconception Statues/images forbidden
Background Some think that statues and images are forbidden completely in Islam no matter what situation or context.
In The Quran there is one example of Prophet Solomon who had workers make as he pleased, including statues/images
They made for Solomon what he desired of enclosures, and statues/images, and pools of deep reservoirs, and heavy pots. "O family of David, work to show thanks." Only a few of My servants are appreciative.
Thus, The Quran does not prohibit such things completely, it only prohibits being devoted to them or their worship
When Abraham said to his father and his people What are these images/statues to which you are devoted?
They said We found our fathers worshipping them.
He said Certainly you have been, (both) you and your fathers, in manifest error. To prevent such misuse, it is likely their use would be limited, but that does not mean forbidden completely.
Say ?Who has forbidden the nice things that God has brought forth for His servants and the good provisions?? Say ?They are meant for those who believe during this worldly life, and they will be exclusive for them on the Day of Resurrection.? It is such that We explain the revelations for those who know.

They never understand that hadith is not at the same level as the quran.

My approach would still be the same. I assume my parents would know of my stance on Traditional Ahadith. If not, I would say The Quran is our primary guide, thus if another source says something different, I will opt for what The Quran says.

298 And We instructed the human to be good to his parents. But if they strive to make you set up partners with Me, then do not obey them. To Me are all your destinies, and I will inform you of what you used to do.

i dont think that this verse implays that we have to obey them in evreything, it only mentions that if the parents who are dear and infleuncial and we are ordered to be kind and humble to them strive to make you set up partener to God, we should not obey them in that, that doesnt necessary mean we have to obey them in otherwise.
