Walking in the cemetery

There is a very old cemetery in the town I live in that I've walked through since I was kid. A lot of history there, plus I see it as a reminder of how life inevitably ends. My wife told me today that it is wrong per the Quran to walk through the cemetery unless you are visiting a loved one. She read (in arabic) what she said was a verse from the Quran that she said translated to something like, when visiting the cemetery to visit a loved one do so with respect. I do not remember this being a part of the Quran and feel she may have been quoting a hadith mistakenly. Has anyone heard this "verse". Also, if so, I would not see this as forbidding entry to a cemetery, though she said because it specifically mentions "visiting" it does. Any insight?

this verse talks about not standing/attending in a grave. ponder your questions in this verse.

This relates to the non-believers, those who were disobedient to the teachings of the prophet. That's it. If that were true, every imam and all those present would be sinning when they say the prayers at every person's burial, which is standard practice among all Muslims.

As for walking through a cemetery, some dwellings have been built in cemeteries. Generation upon generation have inhabited the earth where have they all been buried? Millions of soldiers/enemies have fought and died on battlefields all over the earth.
Cemeteries could be all over the continents....Walk wherever you are able to walk, you cannot harm those who have died and disintegrated. The Lord will resurrect them "new" on the day of judgement.
Fables and nonsense are no substitute for good reasoning.

any way what is the need for an imam or priest in a grave? why do you pray for the dead body? what is your prayer in front of the dead body? is it not blind practice of the majority following their forefathers?

I too walk through a cemetery, though I don't really think about death or anything. I do sometimes (as I'm strolling past) read the names on the gravestones and the dates they were born/died.
And before someone asks; yes, there are designated paths, I wouldn't walk over someone's grave spot.

We are so obsessed with the cemetery when the souls have already departed from the bodies. It is basically nothing there to mourn for. But of course it can be comforting to go to some stone to remember your relatives, but do not think the place is any "magical" or haunted.
