Hello All!
-
Hello everyone. My name is Beau. I live in Upstate NY. I have been searching for religion/God for my entire life. I've researched most religions and nothing seemed to fit. One day I stumbled upon a video on YouTube about a British guy reverting to Islam. It hit me like a brick wall to see someone turn their life around and become such a better person, so I got the Quran began researching Islam. I was agreeing with most everything I read about Islam until I read that music wasn't allowed. So I searched and searched the Quran for where it said that music wasn't allowed, and I couldn't find where it was written. Then I started searching the internet for an answer, that's where I found out about Hadiths. So then I started searching for people who only followed the Quran and I found this site. I hope to learn all I can about Islam here, how to pray, how to convert and how to follow God the best I can. Any suggestions will be most appreciated. Hope to hear from you all soon!

welcome Beau! sun
If you are anything like me, you will be blown away of how much information there is out there.
Keep searching and keep your mind open and you will find the answers you need. You will find that in this forum, we all have different views on a lot of things.
Amazingly enough, we are all reading one book, but we have different ideas of what the book is saying.Don?t get stuck on details, specially when you are new to this. Look at the big picture.
Focus on your spirituality, and how to feel that inner peace and feel closer to God.I am telling you its not in the rules as for example the Shia/Sunni teaches. Haram/Halal everywhere.
Anyway, I hope you have an amazing journey! I`m having it!
Peace

@Beaubeano welcome
One of the nice things about the Deen is that it is very flexible. There is not any one correct way to pray/meditate/worship/whatever...there are a multitude of correct ways. Following popularity is definitely NOT the right way!
6116 And if you obey most of those on the earth they will lead you away from the path of GOD; that is because they follow conjecture, and that is because they only guess.
262 Surely those who believe; and those who are Jewish, and the Nazarenes, and the Sabians, whoever of them believes in GOD and the Last Day and does good works; they will have their recompense with their Lord, and there is no fear upon them, nor will they grieve.
2256 There is no compulsion in the system; the proper way has been clarified from the wrong way. Whoever rejects evil, and believes in GOD, indeed he has taken grasp of the strongest hold that will never break. GOD is Hearer, Knower.
1069 Say "Those who invent lies about GOD, they will not be successful."
16116 And do not say, as to what your tongues falsely describe "This is lawful, and that is forbidden;" that you seek to invent lies about GOD. Those who invent lies about GOD will not succeed.
2267 For every nation We have established rites which they are to fulfill. So do not let the matter fall into dispute. And call upon your Lord, for you are on a guidance which is straight.
925 As for he who gives and is righteous.
926 And trusts in goodness.
927 We will make for him the easy path.Remember that ALLAH requires nothing of us. Prayer is for our own benefit. ALLAH knows our needs before we are aware of them and knows our thoughts before we form them.
Read the Qur'an carefully; take your time. For individual subjects, browse FM, especially articles on the main page. Don't let anyone think for you; use your own judgment. Use the search function in the forums. Personally confirm/deny what you read with a Qur'an and your own best understanding. If there are still questions, start a new topic in the forums. If you discover something new, please share!
1736 And do not uphold what you have no knowledge of. For the hearing, eyesight, and heart, all these you are responsible for.
3918 The ones who listen to what is being said, and then follow the best of it. These are the ones whom GOD has guided, and these are the ones who possess intelligence.
No conversion is necessary. If you wish to say a Shahada, it is not required but not prohibited either.
Here is an article for consideration from the main page of FM on this subject http//free-minds.org/become-muslim
I've found it useful to cross reference text in Arabic to confirm meanings. This can be done a variety of ways; I use http//corpus.quran.com/ to do so...and have learned some unexpected things in the process.
Don't worry, don't rush...there is no need to go to extremes. Try to learn something new everyday. I don't believe in coincidence; if you are here you are here for a reason. ISA you are being Guided on a Path that is straight. )
May the Lord bless you and keep you.
May the Lord make his face to shine upon you, and be gracious to you.
May the Lord lift up his countenance upon you, and give you peace.peace
