Peace
I sent the following article about circumcission to a freind and got his response below. Comments?
Misconception Males/Females are required to be circumcised
Background Some think that Muslim males and to a lesser extent, even females must be circumcised and this is part of Islam. The Quran does not mention circumcision at all. What it does say however, implies that it is unnecessary
God is the Knower of the unseen and the seen, the Mighty the Merciful, Who made most excellent everything that He has created...
And you see the mountains, you think they are solid, while they are passing by like the clouds. The making of God who made skilfully/perfected everything. He is Expert over what you do.
It is also implied in The Quran that in certain situations making change to God's creation is wrong (a superstitious practice of the time is cited as an example)
"I will misguide them and make them desire, and I will command them, so that they will mark/cut the ears of the livestock, and I will command them so they will make change to God's creation." Whoever takes the devil as a supporter other than God, then he has indeed lost a great loss.
Male circumcision is a traditional practice, also practiced by some Jews/Christians. Female circumcision is a pre-Quran cultural practice native to parts of Africa. The Quran strongly condemns blind following of tradition/culture .http//www.misconceptions-about-islam.comSobhanALLAH!
It is really funny that whosoever got a new funny idea about Islam, he want to put it on a website. Its like a joke with Quran and faith. I could have consider this circumcision (Khutne) not required in Islam if there would be any sane evidence, Quranic verse negating it or even if medically it would be wrong.
The verse in the origional email has nothing to do with Circumcision and is a classic example of worst interpretation you can ever see by anyone. It talks about piercing or tattooos etc. like on ear or nose in common pakistani culture and any where your skin, where it can hold a new hole, in western culture. Other than that all kind of surgeries are allowed, no one is changing the DNA of God's creation or listening to devil here. Otherwise if you want to make such a wrong sense out of that verse then stop cutting nails, hairs or taking any surgery which will take any faulty part out of your God's created perfect body.
God doesn't need to stop or start circumcision. Its been in Arabic culture since old times. Jews were and still are doing it, Christians after Saint Paul's aggreement with Gentile nations made it unnecessary, but many Christians of Jewish orgion preffered it. Arabs were doing it from all times. So God doesn't need to tell to start something which is already been started.
Also research what Science tells you if you only like to think this way, why 60%-75% of all males in the United States are circumcised
Pros and Cons of Circumcision
Inability to retract the foreskin fully at birth is not a medical reason for a circumcision.
Circumcision prevents phimosis (the inability to retract the foreskin at an age when it should normally be retractable), paraphimosis (the painful inability to return the foreskin to its original location), and balanoposthitis (inflammation of the glans and foreskin).
Circumcision increases the chance of meatitis (inflammation of the opening of the penis).
Circumcision may result in a decreased incidence of urinary tract infections.
Circumcision may result in a lower incidence of sexually-transmitted diseases and may reduce HIV transmission.
Circumcision may lower the risk for cancer of the cervix in sexual partners.
Circumcision may decrease the risk for cancer of the penis.
There is no absolute medical indication for routine circumcision of the newborn.Out of 8 there is only one possible cons and even that single 1 is among the lowest level of threat to your health i.e. "meatitis" and is among the easiest to cure. Now, see yourself about the remaining unlucky 7.

In my point of view, Science is not separated from religion, so if there is something Science tells you now in any field, is following Islam.
Female circum is nothing to do with Islam, if Africans are doing it, its their culture. If they couldn't left it after accepting Islam, this doesn't make it part of it either. I aggree, that women also have the right to enjoy their sexual life and to remove it to reduce their sexual senses, is extremely unfair, but we shouldn't relate it to Islam anyways. Circum in Judaism and Islam is only required for men and in my understanding for everyone.
Whenever you want to present a new idea, there is nothing wrong but always research from all angles and present it after completely understanding and clearing all the conflicting points and to see all the pros and cons. We should not read Quran like a newspaper. Over simplifying it is creating more complications and new confusions. As you also aggree every word of Arabic has 100s of meanings. Which one is the right one, has to be chosen with extreme care and understanding of not just that time, history, culture but also the present time and situation.
Specifically, this topic of circumcision makes no sence of any kind, from ANY ANGLE, to me atleast. Making a decision on your ideologies or understanding is your own choice.
May God guide all of us! -
Dear Hamsa
The hadith books that fabricated almost everything the narrators imagined somehow forgot to fabricate circumcision stories... Give me a single Hadith that Muhammad was circumcised(Since the early producers of lies forgot to manufacture such a lie, the later generation came up with a genital miracle he was circumcised in heaven!). Give me a single hadith telling us that Omar (or any other prominent sahaba) was circumcised after he became a muslim!
Circumcision now is promoted by Jewish lobby, which is very powerful both in medical industry and media... So, no wonder you will hear many stories about the magical benefits of cutting someone's skin... Is your roled model Samson?
