If they cast you out simply because you believe in something good, then I don't think they really are your friends. It's not right to let other people decide how you should live your life and if you don't depend on them for food, shelter, etc. and you fear that they'll cast you out for being different, then I think you'd be better off without them. I might sound very cold and unfeeling, but living how you want to is very dignified and liberating.

It really depends on the people.

My family know, and some of my relatives, most of the close ones know. They dont really treat me differently, although most think my overall view is wrong.

If unsure of the reaction, I dont see the need to break out with something specific, e.g. "gather round people, i reject all your stuff.... how you like me now?!" type thing. You are still muslim, but one who has different views. If a topic comes up, feel free to discuss it, or not. They will get the idea soon enough. And if they reject you based on that, then that is usually not the sign of a true friend.

      All the best.

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

When I was very strongly influenced by the Ikhwan/Salafi brand of islam back in the late 80s early 90s period, my family members also taught I was something weird and I was getting into arguments all the time. Now the Sunni orthodoxy has gone mainstream and many of those same family members, including my parents, have become very salafi in their religious understanding. Thats what they see on TV and thats what they hear on the mosque. Now i see Koranict popping up everywhere and soon they too will go mainstream. It just needs media attention but its growing. I read an article about the rise and influence of the Koranist persuasion in Khazakhstan. They even have strong influence in high places over there and there is accusations by Sunnis of government bias and favoritism of the Koranist. Who would have thought?

Its only a matter of time before it becomes very mainstream and then the same crowd that used to attack your beliefs suddenly start following them because that is what they see on TV. Many Sudanese did not know anything about hadiths and fiqh, they were strict Sufis but when the Ikhwan came to power and the Salafi influence spread many now act just like many youths used to act in the early 90s. Satelite television has \given the Sunni orthdodoxy mainstream access. Its only a matter of time before the Koranist message comes across. The Koran is not an alien literature. If Koranist were just a litlle bit more united and organized it would take a faster time but I see disunity although not violently but organizationally there is disunity. We still don't even have a single fiqh book that outlines the different view points and interpretation regarding the important subject matters because each koranist wants to spread HIS understanding and not the other Koranic interpretations.

How did the close people around you i.e family members, relatives and friends who were traditional muslim react when you told you don't beleive in nothing but the the quran?
As for the women, if you don't wear hijab and your muslim female friends are aware of why, do you still get along?
Basically all the things that they and yourself were told to be haraam, actually realizing they werent. Did they treat you differently when you didn't follow the sunna?
I havent told my family at all, with god's stenght and willingness I'll be able to soon. But i'm really scared that all those people who mean a lot to be will dissown me. My family wouldn't, but just relatives and friends. I mean, I love ALL my muslim friends and I'm the kind of person every gets along with and has a laugh, things will seriosuly turn ugly if they see how i really believe my life is. It's hard living a lie.

            Peace,
            Respectfully.

            Well, let's see.
My parents and brother are okay with it, me following The Quran and not hadith because of the previous regime in our country.
My relatives are trying very hard not to keep family relations and therefore breaking a rule from The Quran. They're not aware of hadith.
Some of my relatives left me in jail in Frisco for three weeks. What does that tell you?
All my friends are okay with the fact that i'm following The Quran without the hadith, even here at the London central Mosque i have several friends whos till respect me and we hang out every day, even though we talk about The Quran and hadith and i tell them about inconsistencies and lies from the hadith books and they try to convince me otherwise.

But at the end of the day, we agree to disagree and part. We say as salamu alaykum and go home. This is UK.

UK is the best country in the world.
            God bless you all.
            Peace.

I haven't told anyone directly. But my husband knows that I'm questioning things, I don't bring up too much around him as he gets upset. I'm trying to point things out from the Qur'an, little by little - and educate myself more so when a topic comes up I'll know what I'm talking about.
