    Salamun Alaikum! handshake

I argued with a friend today and she said that to gain knowledge (about Islam/Qur'an) and to understand the Qur'an, one need to appoint a teacher so the teacher can teach you the right thing and so he can rightly guide you.

    What she said

    1. I pity u...you misguided to the wrong path...may Allah (swt) guide u to the truth path.

    2. Let me tell you,u didn't have a wisdom to grasp a knowledge of
Quran and sayings or sunna of the
prophet (saw) without a good teachers to explain for u....if u say
      u can do by yourself...am telling u,
      u are misled yourself....

    3. U are too dull, when jibril was sent
      to the prophet Muhammad (saw)
what jibril said to the prophet?
Who teaches the companions of the prophet and his family?....

^ This is all what she said rotfl brickwall

But, my question is Did the Prophet teach the Qur'an to his companions or is it Allah who teaches the Qur'an and guides the people to understand it?

Can someone please give a little bit detail about this issue.. I think that we don't need Imams to teach us, they have damaged Islam more than ever and have brainwashed many with their fatwas.

    Wassalam! group

Well, my personal point of view
God guides us by different ways through signs in nature; soetimes we suddenly just know something; but also trough other people. This can be anyone we meet; even the non-believers may teach us something. So we should always have an open mind, listen to everyone (even imams may be worth listening to as there ay be something wise in their speech, though we should not trust them blindly) and use our God-given mind to distinguish right from wrong, wisdom from falsehood.

        Peace with you all, sun

God guide us thought everything we experience, that is what I think about it. It is stated in Quran that only God can guide whom It wants.
Reee has already mentioned good point listen to everyone, follow the best (righteous).
Mohammed a.s. preached to all people when he had to preach Verses. So I think there were also his companions under the people.

        God knows the best.

Tell your so-called "friend" that gaining knowledge and blindly following are 2 different things. The difference is massive.

Even though I am an ex-Sunni and proud of leaving this problematic sect, I still listen to Sunni bearded gentlemen and wrapped up ladies who may have known more than we do. Learning from them doesn't mean to blindly swallow what they try to feed us. We should be open to all views, even though the views are stupid like "getting 72 virgins for martyrs" and accept only the best. We should analyze and verify what we have learned )

          God bless you.

She's not mistaken, the next question will be, who shall play the role of a teacher?

But herewith my response if I was in your situation..

            What she said

            1. I pity u...you misguided to the wrong path...may Allah (swt) guide u to the truth path.

Thanks, may Allah (swt) be willing to be my teacher and yours as well.

            1. Let me tell you,u didn't have a wisdom to grasp a knowledge of
Quran and sayings or sunna of the
prophet (saw) without a good teachers to explain for u....if u say
              u can do by yourself...am telling u,
              u are misled yourself....

You're right, perhaps I didn't have such wisdom to understand this life yet.
I indeed shall make some mistakes, but I'll surely learn from those mistakes.
As through mistakes of others and of ourselves, we learned.
And I'm certain that Allah (swt) will guide me along the way.

            1. U are too dull, when jibril was sent
              to the prophet Muhammad (saw)
what jibril said to the prophet?

            I don't know, I wasn't there, were you there?
Did you really meet Jibril and Mohammed? OMG!!!
You're right compared to you, I'm dull, with your 1400+ years of age, your life must be very long and exciting!

But, my question is Did the Prophet teach the Qur'an to his companions or is it Allah who teaches the Qur'an and guides the people to understand it?

Allah teached, teaches and shall continue to teach human EVERYTHING that they initially knew not.
            With or without any books.

Can someone please give a little bit detail about this issue.. I think that we don't need Imams to teach us, they have damaged Islam more than ever and have brainwashed many with their fatwas.

Imam are there to teach Islamism ideology.
They're the one who invented religion of Islam.
So if one wants to learn about the Islamism ideology (Sunniism, Shiaism etc..), better go to the (various) imams.

Remember that through mistakes of ourselves and others we learned our lesson.

As for me, I've learned Sunniism, Shiaism, Ahmadiism, Judaism, Catholicism, Orthodoxism, Protestanism, Taoism, Buddhism, Ancient Greekism, Ancient Egyptianism, Krishnaism and many others.

            Salam / Peace
