    I've noticed the various translations have refused to translate using the word dogs. Have they intentionally done this to hide the contradiction?
    Does the arabic text actually say "dogs"? I can't think of any other animal that would be taught to retrieve.
    I am a dog owner myself.

    YUSUFALI They ask thee what is lawful to them (as food). Say lawful unto you are (all) things good and pure and what ye have taught your trained hunting animals (to catch)...

    PICKTHAL They ask thee (O Muhammad) what is made lawful for them. Say (all) good things are made lawful for you. And those beasts and birds of prey which ye have trained as hounds are trained...

    SHAKIR They ask you as to what is allowed to them. Say The good things are allowed to you, and what you have taught the beasts and birds of prey, training them to hunt...

      Clearly the text is referring to house cats. Mice and buejays and chewed up crickets are halal.

          The constitution also says that if you convert from muslim to any other religion you will be striped off your citizenship and sent to jail...so there is no freedom of religion in maldives...no churches and no temples

          Peace,
          Respectfully.

          And to think i wanted to go to maldives, to relax, to chill and have some fun .... you don't think they'd kill me for my beliefs, do ya?

          Peace.

                        err wassa meaning of masha Allah?

                        ma=what
                        sha`a=will,wish,want
                        allah=God/the God

                        So basically it's like "what God has wished" and the like.

                        Peace

                          We can't because as i said before, the maldives is full of narrow minded people...so they won't think of even attempting to overthrow the religious laws because they don't believe that there is Freedom of religion (human rights) in the quran

                            Q Why do you think that we're not allowed to nurture dog as pet
                            A Because Allah has declared it 'forbidden' (Haram), those who bring in dog as pet, their good deeds is washed away daily by certain portions.
                            Q Who said as such?
                            A The Prophet!
                            Q Where? Who said the prophet said as such?
                            A In The Hadith, as narrated by ABU HURAYRAH

                            That explains everything..
                            ABU HURAYRAH is arabic of FATHER OF THE CATS

                            This Father Of The Cats guy must have been hating dogs very much, he fabricated some hadiths to justify his own opinion.
                            In the same compilation of rumours narrated to ABU HURAYRAH / FATHER OF THE CATS, there are 'recommendation' that muslim should nurture cat instead.

                                    Well, we all know that it is forbidden to forbid things that are not forbidden by God. Human beings can be such disgusting bastards.
                                    It seems human being get off on forbidding things. Either people are totally without boundaries and limits, or they go to the other extreme, forbidding everything. giveup

                                    And why the hell do people insist on mixing the languages? The above-everyone-else Muslims always use 20% arabic when they speak. Why not say 'forbidden' instead of 'haraam'. I'm not referring to anyone on this forum.. I just refer to all those who seriously cannot use the local version of simple translatable words like haraam. brickwall brickwall brickwall
