To be fair on the Catholic Church, the reason the Infancy Gospel of Thomas was left out might not have anything to do with misogyny (aka the 'Da Vinci Code', and more to do with that gospel portraying the infant Jesus as smiting his fellow children. It's not the kind of thing you'd want in a civilised religious text.

It's the annoying habit of some people to not bother translating some Arabic words from the Quran which have plainly obvious English equivalents. Injil is the arabised version of the Greek word evangelion. Gospel is from old English, and has exactly the same meaning.

You can only judge by the Torah.
