I think a person should be abstaining from cigarettes on any (every) day, considering it is harmful to his body. That would be the best thing to do. If not, then I feel it's in the spirit of Ramadan to abstain from smoking during Ramadan at least.

Just wondering, Gamal Banna says there is nothing wrong with it and does not nullify as person'sfast.

              Peace be unto you, brother,

May God guide you and give you strength in the trials of this life.

May I suggest using Ramadan as a month to quit smoking all together? We know the poisons and toxins it contains, as well as the harmful effects on the body. Through prayer and guidance, as well as pleas for strength, I personally find it the perfect time to show I love God more than this world, as well as showing my devotion to God by keeping my body, God's Sacred Mosque, pure for Him.

Through God's blessings and strength I was able to give up alcohol completely. This Ramadan I will give up nicotine. We can share the event together, mayhap?

              Peace and blessings.

im sorry i disagree, smoking does not kill neither a gun nor a bomb, nor any desease. god says he has written upon us the time of life and death not one second well we live beyond our time nor fall a second short. all these, we have seen people survive miraclious accidents and tragedies, and we have seen people die instantly in seconds as some soccer players i have seen who die on the field.
i am a smoker and i hate smoking but right now it is the only friend i have, and a very expensive one at that, but god give me patience i will quit one day i think.

I'm sorry but I'm at awe with this kind of logic. Well of course GOD is in control of when you die, so is that a good reason to do reckless? "Im going to go jump off a building because GOD is in control of when I die not when my bones break in half on impact". You can't justify doing something you know is harmful to yourself by saying "well this nicotine/crack/pills I am pushing down my throat is bad for my body, but no worries GOD is in control of when I die" is not how I usually do things.

                  Peace,

Smoking is bad for your health, period. In my opinion, it shouldn't be done at all... However, during this period ("shahru ramadhan&quot, the Reading doesn't impose any specific prohibition against smoking. Based on the scriptures, the only things directly mentioned are eating, drinking, and having sexual intercourse during the daylight hours. Smoking is not considered eating, and it's therefore not directly prohibited... It's still harmful, though... )

                  Peace,

                  Ahmad

i always thought smoking was on par with alcohol

O you who believe! intoxicants and gambling and idols and divining arrows are Satan's handiwork. So avoid it, in order that you may succeed.

Personally, I think smoking cigarettes is much worse than drinking alcohol. Did you know that they put arsenic (rat poison) in cigarettes?

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

If everyone ponder on the verses of the Quran... they should eventually come to the same conclusion except if they blatantly want to keep their addiction...

And that even on Hajj... You see them around smoking happily... Many pilgrims witness this behaviour among the arabs... they do it openly as soon as prayer is over...

the verse speaks of intoxicants, this includes alcohol and drugs etc.
ciggerettes contain many intoxicants e.g. tabacco...

and yes ciggerettes do intoxicate, intoxication is the physical/mental alteration of a person through intoxicants or other forms of poisons. first time smokers and heavy smokers will experiance a slight high (like being light headed but slightly better)... i dont think i would have to remind you of the physical alterations smoking does.
