It's fixed probably because the early islam also used "lunisolar" calendar just like 1st/2nd century jews and early christians. But later hadistic islam interpreted quranic verse as command to remove intercalary month (additional months to align with solar calendar). So that's why nowaday ramadhan is not always mean hot (fixed) anymore and the calendar is useless for agricultural seasons. Maybe the better intrepretation of the verses are
Moslem should rejecting "calculated intercalary month" (as rabbinical jews calendar) but can still adding intercalary month by "observation" just like karaite jews do.

      Peace;
When saying any claim about Religion, please respect Free-Mind rule that asks for Quranic proof. Wikipedia is not a proof.

Yet there is among men such a one as disputes about Allah, without knowledge, without guidance, and without a Book of Enlightenment (22- (Disdainfully) bending his side, in order to lead men astray from the Path of Allah; for him there is disgrace in this life, and on the Day of Judgment we shall make him taste the Penalty of burning. (22-9)

THERE IS NO SOLAR YEAR IN QURAN NOR BIBLE NOR TORAH! brickwall

      BUT LUNAR YEAR ;D

        Salaam belal

The issue of lunar or solar year is not a "religion" issue. Moreover, bataxian is neither claiming nor implying that God said so or it is written in the quraan. I wonder if he/she agreed with your opinion would you refuse Wiki as proof?

Of course I read his post and what I understand is that he is posting his understanding of a verse versus the hadisists' and is showing how he came to this understanding. I do not see he is claiming any thing beyond an undertsanding.
What exactly in this post you want evidence for from the quraan?

              Here are the unsupported lies

              Where the Quranic proof?

But later hadistic islam interpreted quranic verse as command to remove intercalary month (additional months to align with solar calendar).

You know this is the Bigest lie; No one in Shia or Suna or any other Sect did that; all of them follow the Arabic Lunar Calender, which is 12 Moon Cycel (12 Lunar month).
Do not you agree that is a Lie or you will close your Eyes? Do you know that in Sudan (your country) they remove a month, as he says?

So that's why nowaday ramadhan is not always mean hot (fixed) anymore and the calendar is useless for agricultural seasons. Maybe the better intrepretation of the verses are

Where is the Quranic proof that Rammadan has to be in Summer time? or you will close your Eyes on this one as well?

And if you choose to close your Eyes on all these, then you know the name that God gave to such people.

Shia/Sunni (hadistic islam) interpreted verse as command to not use any intercalary month (13th month) just like any other lunisolar calendar that used by pre-islamic people. Do you agree with their interpretations? even though this will make the calendar is useless for agricultural and anticipating seasons?! And it also would make the month's name is meaningless, just like ramadaan, it should mean hot month (read Jim19's first posting), but if we don't use intercalary month, ramadaan will be sometimes in spring, sometimes in summer, sometimes in winter. So there must be other alternative intrepetation of the verses to make sense of the situation. I'm suggesting one in this case. Off course, you could disagree with me anyway peace

Not about removing, but about 'not adding'. I'm sorry if my english is not clear, it's not my native language anyway. ;D

And if you choose to close your Eyes on all these, then you know the name that God gave to such people.

                peace peace, bro handshake

I still do not see any claim that God said that or it is in the quraan that calls for evidence from the quraan. Nor did he say things like (it is a fact) or (it is evident), but rather started his post with (it's probably). These ideas are not new in this forum. No one is asked to present proof if they are expressing their understanding without making any claim that their understanding is the only understanding that is sanctioned by God. Otherwise, there's no meaning of "the study and understanding of the scripture" if there are no different understandings and everything is black and white

2] Please note that this forum is primarily dedicated to the study and understanding of the Scripture (Quran). Thus, mocking it or not being able to back-up claims with specifics will all result in deletion of such posts and/or removal of topic and/or disciplinary action being taken against the offending member.

And if you choose to close your Eyes on all these, then you know the name that God gave to such people.

This is what I meant when I said "when they claim that their understanding is the only understanding that is sanctioned by God", and start calling people names only God has the right to. This will be in violation of Rule #3

3] Respect other users of the forum. Do you know that in Sudan (your country) they remove a month, as he says?

Really ? When was that? What's your evidence ?

You know my stand on this question of fasting, so I am not closing my eyes for any "personal" reason if this is what you are suggesting

                    Salaam

Those people are right here on this forum and are carrying hot discussions trying to explain why they believe so. If you are interested in understanding their point of view, or have what to refute, participate in those threads, mabe you have a good reason why you search the sky for a crescent in order to start to fast during a month that's not fixed.

The month of Ramadan (lunar calendar) is "fixed". You dont have to look for any crescent as the sectarians do. God's system allows for calculation of when the Ramadan is going to be in the next few years without looking for the crescent.
So it is "fixed". It is the sectarians who are causing the problems/confusions by asking people to physically sight the moon.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

                      Yes!

                      2189

They ask you concerning the crescents. Say They are but signs to mark fixed periods of time for people, and for Pilgrimage. It is no virtue if you enter your houses from the back It is virtue if you fear Allah. Enter houses through the doors And fear Allah That you may prosper.

I do not see fasting or "Ramadan" in God's response when crescents are being enquired about, and this is the only verse that mentions crescents.
Ponder on "enter the houses through their doors".
