Difference between ATWI3'OO [OBEY] and ITTABA3'OO [FOLLOW]??
-
Peace bros/sis
It would be great if you guys could write a little your opinion and understand, as well as the implications of the verbs/commands ATWI3'OO and ITTABA3'OO as they are found in the Quran...
What is the difference between these two orders?
I have not done an extensive research on this issue so far, this is why I would like to get some inputs from those who might have taken this into consideration in their past researches. I do have my idea on it, but I will like to dig a little more into this issue before heading to conclusions.
Thank you...
Wassalaam

The said, ?We have listened, and we have refused to accept? {Refer 293}
And they say, ?We have listened, and we have refused to accept? {Refer 446}
And they said, ?We have listened, and we have accepted? {Refer 2285}
And if they had said, ?We have listened, and we have accepted? {Refer 446}
When you said, ?We have listened, and we have accepted? {Refer 507}
That they respond/say, ?We have listened, and we have accepted? {Refer 2451}
And you people listen and you people accept ? {Refer 6416}
The basic perception is to accept what is told. This is to believe in what is told. It is accepting it as true when some thing is told. Those who accept respond by expressing their acceptance or by the nod of head in affirmative. And those who do not accept what is told, they either refuse bluntly, or express their non acceptance by just turning away and departure.
You, the Messenger pronounce, ?You people accept the word of Allah and the Messenger.
For reason {gesture of refusal] you people turn away, in such case indeed Allah does not like those who refuse to accept .{Refer 332}
Whosoever listened and accepted the word of the Messenger, for reason {He is communicating nothing but word of Allah} he certainly accepted word of Allah.
And whoever turned away since We have not sent you as a guard upon them.{Refer 480}
Root of is and basic perception is to accept something wholeheartedly, by will without any external pressure/force/fear/compulsion.
{Refer 238}
comes after it, to follow exactly in the manner told, without there being interference from third party. Nothing should be in between what is being followed. To physically move, on footprints, act exactly on the line accepted. One has a theoretical aspect while the other has practical aspect/connotation. It means translating into action what was accepted.For Urdu speaking friends, here is a 21 page complete article.

Root " "
Words from this Root in the Grand Qur'aan
a) Total occurrences 174
b) No of constructions 89The basic perception infolded in the Root is to practically follow by will, design and affection in such a manner that one moves/walks behind remaining adjacent to the one being followed/pursued so that there is no third in between the follower and the one being followed. "" is calf walking behind his mother. The striking feature, individuality and peculiarity of this Root is the practical and physical aspect of following in action.
The perception and meanings infolded in this Root are distinct and absolutely different from that infolded in the Root " " which is translated by English word "obey" and " " by English word "follow" by most of the writers. This is how both the Roots are inadvertently/incorrectly brought closer and at par, as if they both convey similar meanings. "Obey" means and conveys the perception "to do as told; be controlled by somebody or something" and the word "follow" means "to obey something, act in accordance with something or instructions and directions given by somebody else". It is thus evident that English word "obey" and "follow" are in proximity of synonymous and both refer to an act while Arabic Roots " " and " " are not synonymous and are distinct from each other.
Arabic language is the most scientific language and its Roots enfold all physical/scientific realities and facts relating both to matter and life. A deliberate act of practically and physically following is the result of will/decision and it can take physical execution only by retrieving data, information, instruction, injunction or saying already and previously saved in the memory. A physical act by one's own will and decision/choice reflects and demonstrates his acceptance and liking of the concept and purpose which that act will or is expected to yield.
The basic perception infolded in Root " " is to accept something, word, command, direction, injunction, or saying wholeheartedly and affectionately by will and personal choice without any external pressure/ force/ fear/ compulsion. And " " is the physical demonstration of executing that accepted thing in letter and spirit, exactly in the manner as is told; to follow and move step by step, dot by dot, word by word; move and follow on the footprints of the one being followed. Nothing should intervene including ones own passions, desires and conveniences between the follower and the followed, in which case one will satisfy and implement the perception of the Root, and shall thus be the one who acted exactly on what he accepted.
" " has a theoretical/ideological aspect while " " has practical/physical aspect/ connotation. It means translating/implementing into action what was accepted. This will also show and prove to others the truthfulness of the person that he had accepted that concept/ idea/ fact/saying/news/Book truly and wholeheartedly. In sequence/time frame " " is after " " and not conversely. The equation/relationship of these two Roots can be translated as
He accepted/believed and executed physical acts righteously.
Conversely the relationship is explained/simplified in these wordsand the one who acted/performed from the righteous/moderate deeds/acts whether be a male or a female, and/provided he or she is a true believer/one who accepted .

Peace everyone,
I completely disagree with Mazhar's interpretation.
Ata3na has been contrasted with 3asayna in 446
Ayn-Sad-Ya = to rebel, disobey, oppose, resist, transgress.
Tay-Waw-Ayn = to obey, permit/consent, obedience, to do voluntarily, do an act with effort. Not to rebel, not to disobey, not to oppose, not to resist, not to transgress. istata'a - to be able, have power, be capable of.
Ta-Ba-Ayn = follow/went or walked behind/after, overtook, pursue/investigate/examine/hunt, sought/reach/obtain it, prosecute/sue (for right/due or blood-revenge), succession of one to another, consecutive/successive, follower, imitator, continue the same course, aid/assist/help, come with, obey, desire/demand.
As you can see 3asayna implies a negative ACT/ACTION so ata3na is a positive ACT/ACTION. It is not just passive or theoretical. Ata3na means to SUBMIT VOLUNTARILY and is not just a theoretical or passive acceptance, just like rebellion, disobedience, opposition, resistance, transgression is a negative action and not just a theoretical non-acceptance.
So first we are required to SAMI3NA = LISTEN, then ATA3NA = SUBMIT VOLUNTARILY to what we have listened, and how to submit to what was said is by ITTABA3A = FOLLOW what was said.

After complete disagreement what is concluded is exactly what is stated by Mazhara. Thanks.
