An interesting criticism of the Quran that may backfire.

I just read the Epistle to Yemen so I can't take another insult to religion right now by reading that whole article. I'm assuming you're referring to their pointing out that 'Egypt' is referred to only as Misr? Indeed. I'm surprised that this issue has never been addressed by secular scholars.

Is it not possible that Canaan may have been considered the eastern part of Egypt?

Tell us what did you learn from the Epistle.
Regarding Misr, it could be that the holy land is Misr or near it (whatever Misr really is) and the land that the meek shall inherit found in the three texts.

Is this found in the epistle? Give us a link to read it.
I didn't mean to sidetrack the subject. The epistle is a refutation of Christianity and Islam, and in some ways it provides an accurate description of the two religions and why Jews couldn't possibly accept them. Reason being Christianity claims to do away with religious law, and Islam claims Mohammed is higher than Moses despite the smaller scale of his revelation and reliance on the Torah.
But Maimon -- in addition to not questioning whether or not Christians and Muslims might misrepresent their Prophets -- piles up lies on top of lies. I can't even fictionalize a response. It makes me want to pull my hair out.

And then there's Maimonides' crriteria for the Messiah in Guide for the Perplexed which is totally contrived. There's no such laundry list of expectations in the Hebrew Bible. You could use the same criterion to deny Moses.

While I do not reject the possibility of there applying to real countries and people the narrative of musa and Farao, and in view of the fact the the names of prophets and others in the Qur'an denote something with a meaning as far as their prophecy is concerned, I feel quite at peace considering that we are not necessarily talking about countries or kings, but about moral situtations, where Egypt and its wealth and safety may funge as a representation of the goods the dunya, and farao the poweres of the dunya, and that we should not make them an idol, so that fundametally it dosn't matter whether this Egypt or Siberia. It would be more like long time ago there was a king, who had a daughter... Who cares whose kingdom it was or even whether it existed or not. We know what it means, we know what we are being told, consciously or unconscioulsy.

Whilst I understand your point, it really doesn't matter, but it is interesting to try to find out (human curiosity).
