The total No does matter since there is this information

Had the total number of verses been odd it would have hurt the perception infolded in the word/Root. Grand Qur'aan is void of any contradiction/conflicting statement.

How should that make a difference to us?

Such a question was not expected from a person under whose name "Advanced Truth Seeker" appears.

                Peace Mazhar,

Your comment shows that you don't have an answer to my question. And btw, the number of posts here has nothing to do with being an advanced or a beginner in seeking the truth. One can be advanced with just one post or none at all. The number of posts is totally irrelevant and the same goes with the Quran's number of verses. So what if the Quran came with 5555 verses? Or it came with 4688086 verses? How should that make a difference to anyone?

What would be the significance of an odd or even number? Does it really matter?

I have no idea. If Allah decided that a surah should be odd and the other is even, how should that matter to anyone?

But surely these were numbered after being written down? If so, they would have been numbered by man

Significance is this. It may not seem significant to those who are in the habit of reading books as novels and for killing or passing the time. The Book is something serious while majority of people is always non serious. Only that Book creates a liability to be followed strictly which is void of any contradiction and conflict in it. This is why it is significant.
