Ramadan
-
I think I might need it, especially in this heat sun
hey brother! I live in a hot country and I don't feel thirsty when i'm fasting! Try it!
-
my first ramadan was in 06 and that went really well. my hunger peaked around 11am each day especially when i was changing classes at uni and could smell the cookies baking... that was painful! but then once the hunger peak came and went it was ok and not really that bad, maybe my stomach shrank down, plus it was good to be concentrating on my full uni timetable. And i noticed dramatic improvements in my skin condition.
in ramadans 07 and 08 i was pregnant each time and taking all sorts of meds so tried to make up fasting days afterwards but didn't get the same magical feelings as during my first ramadan.
but now i am really looking forward to this ramadan inshallah, though i am not looking forwrd to having to still get my toddler his food cos i know i am gonna be so tempted to put it to my mouth to check temperature, and eat his leftovers... aaargh! somebody said the sunrise is at 3.45? is that the dawn, do you mean? my sunrise is around 6am, so i was thinking about 30 mins before that would be ok to eat a bit, drink plenty and pray...
sorry for bad grammar, typing with 1 hand as baby on my knee!

I wish you the best of luck and a successful Ramadan.
My first one was 2 years ago when I was 14 - nearly fasted the whole time - had soccer 4 days or so in Ramadan so I did water-fasting for those days. Last year I has soccer training so I couldnt fast all the time. It's kind of surprising to me that your sunrise is at 6 pm - that can't be true. Mine starts at around 439 am. -
Peace
Many of us may have heard of the benefits of fasting. Below I have listed some benefits through some very quick research; things to watch out for and cons. I hope you will find it useful.
2184 ........And if you fast it is better for you if only you knew.
Benefits of fasting
? Detoxification of the body - neutralizing toxins through the colon, liver, kidneys, lungs, lymph glands, and skin.
? Obesity
? Healing process begins in the body during a fast. During a fast energy is diverted away from the digestive system due to its lack of use and towards the metabolism and immune system. People who fast are less likely to get gastritis, tonsillitis and colds for example.
? Extended life expectancy - Anti-aging hormone is produced more efficiently.
? Overcoming addictions
? Uterine fibroid tumors
? Back and neck problems ? fasting + rest + exercise
? Cardiovascular disease
? Gastrointestinal disorders
? Diabetes
? Spiritual gains are massiveWhat you need to watch out for
? KIDNEY STONES ? make sure you drink plenty of water when not fasting.
? MUSCLE CRAMPS - Eat foods rich in calcium, magnesium and potassium foods (e.g. vegetables, fruits, dairy products, meat and dates.)
? HEADACHE - Cut down caffeine and tobacco slowly starting a week or two before Ramadan. Herbal and caffeine-free teas may be substituted. Reorganize your schedule during the Ramadan so as to have adequate sleep.
? JOINT PAINS - Lose weight so that the knees do not have to carry any extra load. Exercise the lower limbs before Ramadan.
? LETHARGY (low blood pressure) - Keep cool, increase fluid and salt intake.
? INDIGESTION AND WIND - Over-eating. Too much fried and fatty foods, spicy foods, and foods that produce wind e.g. eggs, cabbage, lentils, carbonated drinks like Cola also produce gas.
? CONSTIPATION- Avoid too much refined foods, too little water and not enough fibre in the diet.
? During Ramadan (fasting) you should avoid; fried and fatty foods; foods containing too much sugar; Over-eating especially at sehri; too much tea or coffee at sehri; smoking cigarettes.
? Consume slow digesting foods including fibre containing-foods rather than fast-digesting foods - Slow-digesting foods are foods that contain grains and seeds like barely, wheat, oats, millet, semolina, beans, lentils, whole meal flour, unpolished rice, etc. Fast-burning foods are foods that contain sugar, white flour, etc. Fiber-containing foods are bran-containing foods, whole wheat, grains and seeds, vegetables like green beans, peas, sem (papry), marrow, mealies, spinach, and other herbs like methie, the leaves of beetroot (iron-rich), fruit with skin, dried fruit especially dried apricots, figs and prunes, almonds, etc. The foods eaten should be well balanced, containing foods from each food group, i.e., fruits, vegetables, meat/chicken/fish, bread/cereals and dairy products.
? Many doctors warn against fasting for extended periods of time without supervision.http//www.ezsoftech.com/ramadan/ramadan13.asp

I know Ramadan is the name of a month that (sort of) equates to August. What are the other months in the Islamic calender and what do they equate to (roughly)?
Ramadan doesnt equate to any solar month - and obviously the months dont either. You could have Ramadan in December. Wait a few more years... Ramadan 'travels' through the solar calendar backwards for about 11 days every year since a lunar year usually has 354 days (or does it always have so many?).

- Muharam = Forbidden
- Safar = whistling of the wind
- Rabea I = First month of spring
- Rabea II = The second month of spring
- Jamadi I = The first month of summer
- Jamadi II = Second month of summer
- Rajab = From Rajaba "to respect".
- Shaban = Consecutively escalating. Derived from the word "shu'ba", which means branch.
- Ramadhan = intense heat
- Shawal = Taken from the word "shala" which means "when the female camel gets pregnant".
- Dhul Qida = Taken from the word "qa'ada" which means to sit.
- Dhul Hija = The month of "Hajj" (Pilgrimage).

I voted "When I can" because this is the first Ramadan I plan to fast alhamdulillah
a few months ago I met a fellow muslim on a social networking site and was asking her about ramadan as I was curious if it really ment that one would have to go through the whole part of daylight without any water and she was telling me that her and her family would get up before dawn and drink a lot of water before the day starts...
hopefully this method would work for the landscaper I am. i tend to have to hydrate a lot on the job as i seem to naturally sweat profusely working in the heat. whether I end up having to hydrate on a work day, i figure this is between God and I...but my senses tell me I shouldn't worry about this now, i'll cross that bridge when i get there, i just can't help thinking about it time to time...especially after today, i must have drank two gallons of water just to stay strong out there in the field -

If you have to drink to stop passing out, then I'm sure God will understand.

Are you going to fast?

But it sucks when there are water breaks and I just go off a corner somewhere to chill for a bit. After 6pm, I'd walk slowly to a restaurant so that by the time I get there, I can already eat.
Of course, it'll really suck if you had to train from say 11- 3pm.

yay whats your position?
-
Goalie heh. This was years ago, I'm really way too short to play that position.
I'm a defender! Btw you don't need to be so tall to be a golie, all you have to do is jump! yay

Duh, that's how I used to work it. But when you've got another player who's like way taller than you and who's just as good if not better, it's time to say bye bye to that position. These days, I just do parkour. It's got me the all the jumping I love!
