What Happened to All The People in the Forum Archives?
-
I was looking for some topics using the search function and I was surprised by the number of people that are no longer on this forum or are listed as "Guests." What happened? Was there some great schism?
Also,
Is the Quranic translation shown on the main page of this site up to date? I want to purchase one from Amazon but I'm not sure...
-
This forum has been around for quite some time now, some of the members wanted their accounts deleted for different reasons and some were banned. I think it's the latest version up on Amazon afaik, but not sure about the translation online and/or if there are any changes with the book version.

So what are the guest accounts?
Some of the stuff these people wrote is really gold. Why on earth would they leave? brickwall -
Guest accounts occur when a member either posts anonymously (now, or in the past you could post with a name as well without being registered) or the account has been disabled (self requested or otherwise). Banned members (on our new forums) do not show guest accounts, so that probably was a feature of the previous forums.

Maybe in the past this forum was somewhat cultish and now it seems to have expanded making it harder for a few activist to control the message. Also the security aspects of this website. Many people may not want the authorities or their families to know they frequent Quranist websites.
I also realized that many people in this forum view topics but rarely post but this happens on many forums, especially Muslim ones where people are not used to freedom of expression when it comes to religion.
As a marketer, I do realize that retention is very important since its much easier to retain an existing member than it is to acquire a new one. However as long as many people view the topics here, than this forum is a success since the most important thing for any forum is amount of traffic.
Maybe in the future they can provide some Haj service or vacation tours and religious publications as a way to make some money for the forum. But the lack of unity among Quranist makes that hard to realize.

where's idolfree? he was a great contributer! I looked at the internet archive pages and found old pages of free-minds forum which I read! yay

idolfree1's account was deleted by accident during a software/forum upgrade we think. No-one really got to the bottom of that one. He's a busy guy, but maybe visits the forum on the odd occasion.
but he was a mod! do mods get deleted too? (
