People fasting in the northern countries
-
Happy Ramadan all.
I have mentioned about this in another topic, if you stick to the light of the sun as the light of the sun that is observed, it leads to confusion in northern countries.
21st Aug. 2009, Helsinki
People should begin fasting around 04 a.m. and break around 2100 p.m. (approx. 17 hours)
21st Aug. 2009, Riyad
People should begin fasting around 04 a.m. and break around 1830 p.m. (approx. 14.5 hours)21st Jun. 2009, Helsinki
People should begin fasting around 02 a.m. and break around 2300 p.m. (approx. 21 hours)
21st Jun. 2009, Riyad
People should begin fasting around 04 a.m. and break around 1900 p.m. (approx. 15 hours)In June, people have 3 hours left for eating, possible taravih, sleeping, eating for the next day.
Am i the only one seeing a trouble here?
Is there anyone in say, Canada, Norway, Sweeden, Finland and fasts in these terms?

If Ramadan is in summer, they are very unlucky.
If it is like now, in fall, then they should be fine.
But in general, the northern countries have a pretty long fast. -
People there should at least try. If they cant do it, then they should either fast a different time or feed the poor. Do you live in Helsinki (or another northern country)?

I don't live there. But if i claim that Quran is a universal book, i have to explain this, at least to myself.
If you take "light of the sun" as an indicator for "the beginning of the day" and "the end of the day" of a normal standard person, fasting time might be approx. from breakfast to dinner.
i.e. in Riyad, in every season people break fasting at 1800 - 1900. When Quran was revealed, people may be was understanding the ayath as the beginning and the end of their days, remember they had no digital watches.
I think that might apply to other cities as well.
(i.e. in 538 As to the thief. Male or female, cut off his or her hands a punishment by way of example, from Allah, for their crime and Allah is exalted in power. , we do not understand the hands should be cut, but another meaning)
Any other ideas?
