Any !"Muslim food traders"? Perhaps you mean "Arab food traders"..?
I am boycotting dates - since it is not a requirement and it is starting to be/is an innovation, and they are full of sugar. Why do people have to eat Arab food all the time (especially during Ramadan)? I think that's where the cult syndrome kicks in. Eat healthy - no junk, not too much carbs, etc. and you should be fine. That is best for fasting and in general as well. -

are dates naturally high in sugar? or does sugar get added as part of the drying/packaging process? i was thinking they were healthy cos they are a natural fruit, and supposedly high in iron, and it's what Mary got when she shook the tree while she was heavily pregnant.
1920-1925
Can't imagine dates (natural ones anyway) would be considered junk if God gave them to Mary.peace and best wishes
ps
if u are not bothered about high carbs and fat, try this get the dates and fry them til they are mushy and then serve with dessicated coconut on top, yummy! eat -

Where did you get that from? Please read more carefully next time. Also, I would never eat them fried - unhealthy. I only pointed out that it is a so-called Sunna and so I want to kind of boycott it - doesnt mean that they are prohibited, of course. However, I read some BS from an 'Islamic' website like us havinbg to break our fast with dates and that it should be our first choice and that we must look for dates first for breaking out fast, and only break our fast with water if we dont find dates. I guess the Sunnis/Shias would turn red if you were to break your fast with, say, Fanta.
And your coconut idea and frying is unhealthier than a fresh date - although 'unhealthier' might not be the right choice of word, since a date isnt really unhealthy - it's just high in sugar, that's all. It doesnt mean that we can't/shouldnt consume them. I was a bit opposed to it because most people consider it a 'sunna'.
Have a nice Ramadan.

I am glad you mentioned dates in relation to Maryum. I too belevie all the food mentioned in the Quran, like honey, olives, pomograntes, grapes and of course meat has special benefits, so why not include dates? If it was good for the pregnant Mariyam it's good for us and, as you said, even better if it's fresh. It is good if we get rid of this paranoia about hadiths and just use our common sense.

As-Salamu Alaikum my brothers! Happy Ramadan...I have missed the fast because for physical issues. I plan to fast next month, insha'Allah. Pray for me as you are in my prayers. The doctor found a spot on my lung on an X-Ray. I am not sure where this medical revelation will take me, but I am assured fo God's mercy and compassion. I worry less for me than for my wife and children. My pulminologist appointment is 9.8.2009. I am sure that I will be undergoing tests ans such...perhaps my plans for a fast next month is not realistic, but they are my plans none-the-less. May God's peace be upon you all.
