Assalamu Alaikum!
I reverted over a year ago, but my contact with Islam goes back to '08. I made my public shahada as a Sunni, but constantly found myself debating small details, with brothers. I would always ask "where, in the Quran, does it say that". I would get the reply that it was NOT in the Quran but was a hadith. This always troubled me and I'm actually relieved to finally find out I'm not the only Muslim in the world who accepts the Quran as the word of Allah (swt) while remaining skeptical of hadith and other "Islamic" tradition/ritual.
Please do not misunderstand - I do not "reject" hadith and I do think Muhammed (saw) was probably a great Muslim who should be used as an example. I just disagree with my Sunni brothers on two points (1) you need the hadith to understand the Quran. Why? Is it because I'm not good at understanding things or because God isn't good at explaining them? (2) LAW (sharia) is the combination of the Quran and the Sunnah. I have to disagree, LAW is from Allah (swt) alone. He is my creator and who I will have to answer to.

I was the same as you. Glad that Allah has guided you. I am also fairly new to the forum.
I came here thinking I would find like-minds but this forum has no clear direction. Do not waver someone here has advised me to beware of those who try and bring confusion and are pushing for an agenda. I advise you the same, stick to the Quran and be patient with it. Indeed in it, there is all the guidance!Do not let the hypocrites, disbelievers nor trolling shills waver your faith!
And never take anyone's words as factual not even mine!

You are right to notice this about Hadith, I think any well educated person in these modern times will look at this. Indeed, many top Islamic scholars are discussing this issue, though not always in the public eye. I will link to one video here to watch. My practical approach to Hadith is this I am not afraid of them, I read any I can ("Sunni", "Shia" "authentic" "weak" they all hold a similar place for me. A possible historical interpretation. The more collaborated the interpretation, and the more in agreement with the Qur'an the closer it probably is to reality. Unlike modern practices of Fiqh however, I would never advocate that we use it to create law. I agree with you, the Law comes from the Creator. The Qur'an's main message is really quite simple believe in your Creator and do good works. The laws that are really important, like inheritance and certain corporal punishments are explained explicitly so as not to cause confusion. All the minute issues seem mute really (i.e.Whether you hold your hands at your side, or cross them, or have a completely different form of prayer) I don't think the Creator will really care, as long as you believe and do good works.
Anyway sorry for the long-winded post, but just wanted to say welcome. Keep reading and thinking, you will not be lead astray.
