Salams,
Boy am I glad I found this forum, bit like a breath of fresh air to discover some very like minded people.
I am a 47 years old english man but became a muslim 27 years ago.
I then spent the next 5 years living in a southern sudanese madrasa of a then well known suif sheikh, learning the basics of arabic & Quran before then spending a couple of years in Turkey where I actually took hand of a sheikh.(Of a different tariqat).
I have had some wonderful moments of clarity and learnt a lot. I consider zhikr a form of meditation, never a bad thing.
Alas on my return to UK I forgot, but never lost my faith.
Last year I have started my path back to my practice. My beleifs have crytalised and as far as I can see it, erroneous hadith has polluted most of Islam, precisely as the Quran predicted. I beleive in Sunnah practice if it comes from the early practices of the early community, say 100years from the relevation only, but most if not all hadith is to be taken with a huge bucketfull of salt.
I can see how it came about, in an true islamic society there has be be rules and laws covering almost all things, but they have been constructed from old stories and sayings, instead of just the Quran. Big error.
The fact that most of the schools of islamic thought (mudhhab) all came up with the fact you could wage war on people purely for being unbeleivers astonishes me. THERE IS NO COMPLUSION IN RELIGION is only one of many many lines which dispte this.
The Quran is the only source of Gods law, it is COMPLETE and PRESERVED is it not? (You only have to read)
So I will now be trying to learn as much as I can and study the Quran with as many different translations and commentaries I can get my hands on but ultimately I need to take up my Arabic lessons again if I am to fully understand the differing views and take an indiividual stance on some issues.
One day soon I will go to Jummah in my local town for the first time in 25 years, some may still remember me but my Quranist views may not go down too well with the local intellectual elite, all are very traditional sunni as I remember.Peace & Love.

Salaam Mo, welcome to the community.
The idea that Mohammed spent years teaching the Quran, only to then spend years teaching people to ignore half of it, should be enough for anyone to question the authenticity of the Hadith, but hey, this is the kind of thinking we have to deal with
Hope you enjoy it here. Let me know if there's anything I can do to help.
Best, Carl.

Assalamu Alaykum brother,
I am glad you found this forum as well, we always need more people with good hearts, open-minds, and beneficial knowledge. I hope you find the people here inviting and respectable.
Let me know how it goes at he Masjid, I have been thinking of returning to the Jummah we have near here in a small room of the Public Library (we have no Masjid), so let me know how your reception is.
Best of luck and peace.
