it's talking about corrupting God's creation.
that makes me think of mutations and silicone implants and other unnatural things that cause damage to tissues below the skin.

I don't see how keeping or removing body hair, depilation, shaving, cutting, dyeing, piercings, tattooing are corruptions of God's creation.

But female genital mutilation, circumcision, sex change operations (but not gender play or gender bending or any other form of self expression that should be left entirely to the freedom of the person involved), or lengthening of the neck using brass coils as in a Burmese tribal group; these seem to be corruption of God's creation.

I am aware that I have not provided proof, but my opinion, but that is because the word 'corrupting' can be interpreted in different ways. For me, that would be any form of modification that is more than skin deep and/ or is capable of causing net harm to the person concerned, sometime in the future.

It would be great to know other people's understanding of this verse.

    Peace

    Sarah

I agree with you. circumcision is a mutilation especially when carried out on a female.

It is worse than killing a female in my opinion. Even animals wouldn't do that '(

          killing is always worse.
you can repair the damage partially, but you can't bring a dead person back to life

animals never cause massacres or mutilate other animals for any reason.
Human beings (some, not all) cause more suffering than any other being.

I just feel like the use of the word 'animal' is wrong. I think 'beast' would be more appropriate, since it has the connotation of aggression and cruelty.

I'd never use the word beast to describe a non human animal though.

Enough of circumcision. Pubic hair and plucking or shaving. What does the quran say?

The Quran doesn't seem to say anything specific beyond not 'corrupting' God's creation.
I think a better question would be, 'what kinds of acts and changes would be considered 'corruption' of God's creation?'
