      Peace,

      And welcome to the forum.

I read what is on the homepage, but aren't as a Muslim aren't I supposed to take the hadiths/sunnah and the Quran also as a source of religion? As that is what I have learnt that we should.

Generally I suppose that's what muslims are taught to use as sources of guidance. I think the quran is sufficient enough in that respect, but I do not think you have to give up on reading and following these other ahadeeth. Read the quran and see if it points you to other sources of guidance due to an inefficiency to guide one on the straight path.

      Joe

Progressive1993- I read what is on the homepage, but aren't as a Muslim aren't I supposed to take the hadiths/sunnah and the Quran also as a source of religion? As that is what I have learnt that we should.

Well, 'what you are taught' is not always the best thing.

We are not to follow 'what we are taught' or what our parents are/were doing blindly.

2170 If they are told, "Follow what God has sent down," they say, "No, we will follow what we found our fathers doing!" What if their fathers did not reason much and were not guided?

We are to follow the Quran alone

1746 We place shields over their hearts, that they should not understand it, and deafness in their ears. If you mention your Lord in the Quran alone, they run away turning their backs in aversion.

456 These are God's signs that We recite to you with truth. So, which hadith, after God and His signs, do they acknowledge?

You all seem like a pretty cool bunch. I heard about this forum on another forum. I became a Muslim not very long ago, but I don't know very much. I am not a sunni or shia. I just believe in God.

You are definitely on the right track. Sects are forbidden.

6159 Those who have divided their system and become sects, you have nothing to do with them. Their matter will be with God, then, He will inform them of what they had done.

        Interestingly, sect means 'shia'.

Remember to stay on the path of 'God alone'

3945 When God alone is mentioned, the hearts of those who do not acknowledge the Hereafter are filled with aversion; and when others are mentioned beside Him, they rejoice!

6161 Say, "My Lord has guided me to a Straight Path. An upright system, the creed of Abraham the monotheist; he was not from those who set up partners."

6162 Say, "My bond (salat), my devotion and offerings, my life, and my death, are all to God the Lord of the worlds."

6163 "He has no partner, and this is what I was commanded; I am the first of those who have peacefully surrendered."

6164 Say, "Shall I seek other than God as a Lord when He is the Lord of everything?" Every person earns what is for it, and none will bear the burden of another. Then to your Lord is your return and He will inform you regarding your disputes.

I am no longer a Sunna-rejecter. See 4:59-65, 62:2-4, 3:31, 4:156, 7:157 Messenger teaches and is to be followed and obeyed. Examples of revelation received which is not in the Qur'an: 3:123-126, 33:37, 2:187, 66:3, 62:9.

I was brought up a Christian, but my family was not overly practicing. We would go to Church on the special days. I became Muslim because that's where path took me. I haven't read the Quran completely I have read a little bit. I do find it a little hard to read at times, and that's me being honest. I need an really easy version of it to read, so if anyone knows of a really easy to read version please let me know.

I find certain parts of Islam hard to understand, but guess that's cause of the way I was brought up. At the same time I believe in freedom that exists in ones self.

www.quranix.net has various non-traditionalist translations. It also has a search function. It's the best Quran tool on the internet that I know of.

I find certain parts of Islam hard to understand, but guess that's cause of the way I was brought up. At the same time I believe in freedom that exists in ones self.

20114 Then High above all is God, the King, the Truth. Do not be hasty with the Quran before its inspiration is completed to you, and say, "My Lord, increase my knowledge."

Take your time and go step by step with each issue that you dont understand, and pray to God to increase your knowledge/guide you.

It is interesting that you have made a conversion having done such. Maybe test the waters before taking a dip?

Some translations could be trying to read due to the language, or maybe it's the way the themes are presented in the quran. I'm good to go with Yusuf Ali's translation. Maybe before you buy one you should check the available translations on-line to see which one is easier to read for you.

Welcome to the forum. Try downloading the translation of the Quran in the home page of this site (its on the right had side called message). Also, many articles you can read on different topics. When I first discovered this site I started reading the articles, I have to admit my head was spinning as I could not believe what was written. I kept on thinking 'this is going against what I believed in the past, but its logical and feels right'. I also have to admit as I read and told others what I read, I was asked to stop believing the rubbish I was fed and that Christians and Jews wanted to throw Islam into chaos. I was also told that I was reading the wrong Quran etc. When pointing out to people that what they are saying is not from the Quran and from other books, they argued with me that I have no knowledge of arabic and should go learn it. I have to say that many of these conflicts came from my family lol I stopped talking or bringing up the topic of religion now with them as it caused to many proplems but continue to read articles and extend my knowledge on Islam. Have fun and may God guide you in the right path.

                Peace

Well I still am a Christian but not a traditional one, I am a God-alone Christian that accepts no human as a god. The reason I still call myself a Christian is because I believe in the message that God gave Jesus even though I do not believe that Jesus was anything other than a prophet. I am what I jokingly call a Christlim or a Mustian.
