Those names/titles we give to ourselves don't tell who we are!
            Are you RasulHamsa?

What's your opinion about verse 569. will a person who believes in Allah, whether he is a jew, christian or whatever, be saved?

It depends on your interpretation of "believe". There is no belief without action...

belief is a state of mind, not of action. We may act according to our beliefs, but we aren't bound to.

I disagree. The Qur'aan says we are bound to BELIEF in 5 things Allah, the angels, the prophets and messengers, the scriptures, and the hereafter. However, we can't just simply believe these things and expect to receive God's mercy; we have to act on these beliefs... This is even shown by the Qur'aanic contrast between a "muslim"/submitter (or peacemaker) and a "mumin"/believer (or faithful) (Q. 4914). Based on this concept, being a believer is based on more than simply submitting to Allah. It is also based on action, or in this case, acting according to the beliefs... Therefore, according to the Qur'aanic description, if one does not act in accordance with these beliefs, then they don't really believe at all, and they aren't guaranteed any "salvation" from God...

and how exactly do you act on a belief in the angels and the hereafter?

When you believe that there are cameras (angels) inside and all over you reporting every single thing you do or even think about, and so you act accordingly. That would be a belief in angels. And when you trust that whatever good you do or whatever bad you do there is a return for it, that would be a belief in the hereafter.

you are only proving my point, that it indeed is, a state of mind. it's affecting your internal thought processes and some outward actions resulting from those thought processes, but it's not the same as taking the initiative to do some kind of social work or reform, or something like that.

                            Exactly... handshake

It's not about social work or anything, it's just about acting in accordance with your "beliefs". Anyone can think anything they want about anything, but those beliefs don't mean anything unless they're acted upon. Therefore, there is no belief without action...

thinking anything you want doesn't constitute belief, it's just thoughts. One can have many different thoughts, and they may contradict each other. When you have certain beliefs, it affects your whole mindset, and having conflicting beliefs can really disturb someone enough to cause them to have a conflicted state of mind.

I think you are confusing what I mean by random 'thoughts and opinions' with what I mean by 'beliefs.'

Its all in the heart. As long as thats clean, then naturally you will do good God willing. If that is not clean then your actions, image or anything else is nul and void!

I keep coming back to this (near) perfect definition of taqwa.
