What do you think about the Suspicious Activity in my Gmail Account?
Please read the following communication and share with me your thoughts
Dear Lorraine Ali
Two days ago, I querried your postal address to send you three English books, which are contributing to great transformation in the Muslim world.
This evening I received your email containing your address. However, I was busy and did not print your address at that moment. I marked it UNREAD. Several hours later, when I checked my inbox, I noticed that your email had dissappeared.
I checked the trash and other boxes to see whether inadvertantly I had moved it around. There was no trace of it. I checeked the SENT MAIL box and I could not find my email to you. But, I found my email to the second reporter that I contacted, Lisa Miller.
This is the first time I am encountering such a mysterious disappearance at my gmail box and I have a wierd feeling that it might have been compromised.
I have very important information to share with you. You may contact me via my cell phone at (sure if this email is not intercepted)

EDIP YUKSEL is an American-Turkish-Kurdish author and activist who spent four years in Turkish prisons in the 1980's for his political writings and activities promoting an Islamic revolution in Turkey. Data gets lost all the time, you know it lives on mechanical rusty platters which eventually fail and if not replicated or backup up well bye bye.

I have had cases of emails disappearing, and because I am a political activist, and a paranoid one at that, and suffer from bipolar, I blame it on secret services, but it is possible, in fact probable, that all prominent muslims, progressive or not are on a watch by many organisations.
Gmail is not a particularly safe environment I think, the more bloated an application, the less security there will be, and Google is well known to co-operate with authorities regarding help with spooking.
I think Microsoft with Hotmail are better, I have had emails since 1995 which are still there.
By the way even normal paying ISP's such as your local Telecoms are not safe either as I have had emails received from politicians actually disappear (go figure)...
If they (spooks) find stuff they think is iffy, they put someone on a target list, if that person is lucky they just do remove the stuff they don't like, which also acts as a warning, if one is unlucky, or can be used as an example without much fuss and is expendable, they move in, and make an arrest...
or am I paranoid?
Also do you have good protection on your PC like good firewall, anti-virus, anti-trojan-worm-...,do you allow regular security updates of your OS (but all that of course does not stop dedicated scoops from major orgz).

No I am not paranoid, and I have no fear of devils; they should fear me and my cause. I am almost sure that in my small group in Tucson I have a pretty "benevolent" FBI informant for years. In late 1980's, an FBI informant, who was exposed after Rashad's assassination in early 1990 by the cover story of Tucson Weekly, assisted Rashad as a low-tech assistant in his recording of videos. Rashad gave her credits in the beginning of his amateurish videos. She caused some personal problems in the Masjid and I noticed that Rashad wanted to kick her out of Masjid but unable. I remember that Rashad called police twice but each time she managed to hide like a little child. Strange... After reading about her real identity, I was disappointed in myself for not suspecting her... She cut all her relations with the group after her real mission was exposed. This was before 9/11 and despite Rashad's peaceful and apolitical position. It would be gullible of me of expecting not to listened by FBI and other agencies. But, I do not expect them to snatch and swallow my emails. (So, dear spies and informants, do your job properly without raising suspicion .
I am not suspicious by nature and I prefer to be wrong on positive side rather than in negative about people (thus, among the thousands of people I have met, so far I have only one suspect as an informant and I do not mind his/her presence).
As I mentioned, this is the first time I had such an experience regarding mysterious disappearance of an email. I am well versed about emails (I am using it since 1995). And I know how to dig trash cans too ;D In the past, I retrieved a few emails from my TRASH box. But this was nowhere to be found.

I finally got the Quran A Reformist Translation and it's really good. I have been reading it and studying from it. I love the referencing to the Bible also. I dont even read my Yusuf Ali edition Quran anymore. Thanks Edip your for scholarly work. I would like to see more books leaning on reform Islam as well.

There is a feature now in gmail that makes it possible for a user to cancel a mail that has been sent. You turn the feature on in settings/labs/undo send.
Try it out by sending an email to yourself in a new tab. The email does actually get sent to the addressee before the sender can 'unsend' and it is deleted from the inbox. They have a window of about 5 seconds to unsend the mail. It could be the case the the person unsent the mail as the info was incorrect but you caught it before it was deleted from your inbox. Or it could be just a glitch. Let us know what you hear back.

As for emails. dc2, it was not an unsent message, since I contacted Lorraine again and she sent me again her address. It could be a glitch, of course.

I will get in touch with you. I am just new to Islam and discovered reform Islam which seems the right path to me. I will email you for sure. In regards to The Quran A Reformist Translation, it is pretty solid and makes sense. It is quite readable as well. I look forward to seeing a revision of the work based off of any errors found plus any new material that could be added to it in the appendices section. Thank You Edip. In regards to your endnotes on Jesus, I have a background as a former Christian Minister and find your endnotes highly reasonable and truthful in nature. Would like to see stuff added to endnotes dealing on findings from the Dead Sea Scrolls which sheds a lot of light on Jesus. Such as that he was just trying to reform Judaism based on there forms of worshipping God and being materialistic rather than spiritual. Keep up the good work and I hope your emails work out. I have already tried to contact you a few weeks ago. I know your pretty busy. By the way I use to send material and some information on Jesus to Jacobvichi Simcha and James Cameron who did that documentary on the Jesus Family Tomb in which they got slammed by the Christian fundamentalist for making that documetary. I culled up a lot of info dealing with Jesus and the Essenes and sent it to Simcha and Cameron. Pretty good guys.
