    Peace be upon you all,

I was working on my interpretation of surah qadr, and i found this strange

the night of power is better than month one thousand.

    month here is singular, not months, in my understanding it would be plural if talking of a collected number of months, i think rather its talking about a specific numbered month;

    1000 / 12 = 83.3r
83 years is a quite long human lifetime, so i thought prehaps its a idiom for 'better than reaching 80 years of long life'

prehaps there is something lacking in my understanding, but i do my best.

the noun shahr in all its forms, sing. plur. etc. occurs 21 times in the quran, here are the occurances

3412 (2) - singular, singular - solomon, wind traveling one month going, one coming
4615 - singular - weaning a child in month thirty
    973 - singular - month one thousand
    2185 (2) - singular - the month ramadhan

492 - dual - expiation fast for two months
584 - dual - expiation past for two months
654 - plural - talking of an divorce intermin

    the haram month

936 (2) - singular, plural -the count of months (plural) with God is month (singular) twelve (usualy 'twelve months', literaly 'twelve month&#039, from his decree, from it (the count of months) the number four month is haram
2194 (2) - singular - 'the restricted month with the restricted month', equivalent retaliation
2217 - singular - there is fighting in the haram month
52 - singular - do not violate the haram month
597 - singular - the haram month is one of a number of things whose purpose is for us to realize God knows everything in the heavens and the earth.

what about the 'four sacred months'?

well, God has used the word four months often in the quran, all theese forms in plural

92 - plural - roam the earth for four months
95 - plural - 'when the restricted months have passed' (note the above, i believe this is the haram months in question, not THE haram month)
2197 - plural - pilgramage in the 'appointed months' (note that, surah 9, the declaration when God said roam the earth for 'four months' was on 'the day of the greater pilgramage, so theese four are possibly the 'appointed months&#039
2234 - plural - intermin period (four months, and ten)
    2226 - plural - four month period

Now, some points i must note

i may have made errors which invalidate this whole theory, if so please point them out, I am trying my best to find the truth though.

    some patterns

all mentions of haram months in surah 9 or months for pilgramage, and plural

all mentions of 'the/a haram month' are singular, apart from those in surah 9

God has used the phrase four months repeatedly in the quran, always in plural.

aside from theese, the dual forms, and plurals ALL talk of periods of time (inclusive)

the singular forms all speak of a specific month (i.e the haram, month one thousand, month 30 etc) in my understanding, otherwise if they were periods of time (inclusive) they would be plural like the other forms.

    Some conslusions

None realy, but at this stage it seems plausible that any of theese could be true, and also could be falsified

there is only one haram month
it is the month of ramadhan
the pilgramige is in four 'known months'
theese four months were haram because of the decleration in surah 9, not because they were always haram
the four months for pilgramige, and the four haram months (plural) above are not related to the haram month (singular)
i just missed something crucial and spent some time straying from the right path

Any input would be appreciated, to me this all seems strange.

    Peace be with you all

      There is no issue...

A thousand "yawm" (i.e Day), A thousand laylah (A thousand night). By the way there is a a famous novel named "a thousand night and a night"(Laylah, and not Layali(its plural) )

In arabic it is redundant, and logically too. One thousand of a single object which is a month in this case. In english, it is written one thousand months i.e a thousand occurences of a month. You get to add an "s" to it to stick to the english grammar but it's different in arabic, obviously.
