        Peace,
        Respectfully.

welcome welcome to the forum, sister and may God The MOST Merciful bless you and guide you to be even better Muslim then me. God willing, akoBogda, inshaAllah.

If you want to read some more, i would propose the idea of researching the word hadith. I could give you too many links and piles of reading material but let's see what The Quran itself - The Words of God - say about sahih hadith by Bukhary and sahih hadith by Muslim.

"Have they not looked at the dominion of the heavens and the earth, and all the things God has created? Does it ever occur to them that the end of their life may be near? Which HADITH, besides this (Quran) do they believe in?" 7185

"Among the people, there are those who uphold baseless HADITH, and thus divert others from the path of God without knowledge, and take it in vain. These have incurred a shameful retribution." 316

"God has revealed herein the BEST HADITH; a book that is consistent and points out both ways (to heaven and hell). The skins of those who reverence their Lord cringe therefrom, then their skins and their hearts soften up for God's message. Such is God's guidance; he bestows it upon whomever He wills. As for those sent astray by God, nothing can guide them." 3923

"These are God's revelations (Quran) that we recite to you truthfully. In which HADITH other than God and His revelations do they believe?" 456

"Let them produce a HADITH like this (Quran) if they are truthful." 5234

"Therefore, let Me deal with those who reject this HADITH(Quran); we will lead them on whence they never perceive." 6844

"Which HADITH other than this do they uphold?" 7750

Why did God permitted these so called Hadiths ? The answer is in next verse.

"We have permitted the enemies of every prophet - human and jinn devils - to inspire in each other FANCY WORDS , in order to deceive. Had your Lord willed, they would not have done it. You shall disregard them and their FABRICATIONS. This is to let the minds of those who do not believe in the Hereafter listen to such FABRICATIONS, and accept them, and thus expose their real convictions.

Since you're a sister, you're probably gonna meet the most contraversial issue from your point of view womna's dress code. The Quran is clear on this issue and it tells you to follow only these three verses when it comes to woman's dress code

726 - O Children of Adam, We have sent down for you garments to alleviate your bodies, and feathers; and the garment of righteousness is the best. That is from the signs of God, perhaps they will remember.

2431 - And tell the believing females to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent, and let them put forth their shawls over their cleavage. And let them not reveal their beauty except to their husbands, or their fathers, or fathers of their husbands, or their sons, or the sons of their husbands, or their brothers, or the sons of their brothers, or the sons of their sisters, or their women, or those maintained by their oaths, or the male servants who are without need, or the child who has not yet understood the composition of women. And let them not strike with their feet in a manner that reveals what they are keeping hidden of their beauty. And repent to God, all of you believers, that you may succeed.

3359 - O prophet, tell your wives, your daughters, and the women of the believers that they should lengthen upon themselves their outer garments. That is better so that they will not be recognized and harmed. God is Forgiver, Merciful.

As you can see, no hijab, no niqab, no burqa or any kind. Always read The Quran carefully and ponde ron its verses.
The Quran agrees on many things with the previous Scriptures The Torah and The Bible.
May God bless you and guide, sister.

        Peace.

          Hi everyone.
I have been lurking on here for a while but thought I would introduce myself so I can participate a bit.

I have always been interested in religion, I was brought up as a Catholic but I couldn't make sense of the trinity and the idea of original sin so that hasn't been something I have perused in my adult life. I had looked into most religions and had got especially interested in Buddhism...I like the Buddhist philosophies but then I felt that it was missing something because I DO believe in A God. Also I believe in an afterlife where our soul is the exact soul we have now, here on earth...so Buddhism doesn't really fit in that respect.

I had never really looked into Islam and I admit I was slightly prejudiced against Muslims because my only knowledge about Islam was media portrayal. Then I decide to change my degree modules to study Religion and Philosophy and needed to pick a extra module...for which I chose 'Islam in the West The politics of co-existence'. As background reading I bought several books on Islam and bought 'The Meaning of The Holy Qur'an by Abduallah Yusef Ali'.

I have been entranced by Islam. Everything I believed before I found out about Islam is what Islam is!

The only things that didn't make sense to me were the Hadith...it seemed that to follow the Hadiths was to take partners?...but then I found this site! bravo

So I think I'll be sticking around here to learn a bit more....so, pleased to meet you all peace

          welcome to the forum sis

I hope you will find what you are looking for here

may god guide yu to the straight path. pr

          peace! peace

Thanks for all the replies) Wakas, those are interesting links and I have added them to my favourites

Alen...thanks for pointing out my misconception of the word Hadith. So what are the Hadiths that don't include the Qur'an referred to?
Also, in Surah 2431, I have read that the striking of a women's feet means walking...does anyone suppose it could be dancing? I think that dancing is more overtly sexual than walking so it could show off a woman's beauty.
I dislike dancing anyway so if God says I shouldn't do it I would be pleased! ;D

Also. what is the Quranist view of women going swimming..in a normal costume...is it the same as the Sunni view?

            Thanks peace

              Peace,
              Respectfully.

There are two major books out there in almost every sunni mosque, called sahih hadith Bukhary and sahih hadith by Muslim.
Sahih means authentich and hadith means a narrative or a narration.
Bukhary was a man who narrated these false narrations and attributed them to the prophet/messenger Muhamamd and so did another man, conveniantely called Muslim.

I have asked myself and several sunnis this question why is it that bukhary and Muslim wrote the word Authentic (sahih) on their books and God didn't on the cover of The Quran? I didn't get an answer from sunnis but the answer is simple, at least to me we will always find evidences to see that The Quran is Sahih (Authentic) and i have already found several hadith from Bukhary which contradict The Quran.

I will post thsoe later, God willing.

From what i can see in the ayya quoted below, if a woman strikes her feet in the manner that it reveals what she is keeping hidden from her beauty, then that would be wrong. One must ask herself/himself, what is it that they are keeping hidden from the beauty?

2431 And tell the believing females to lower their gaze and keep covered their private parts, and that they should not reveal their beauty except what is apparent, and let them put forth their shawls over their cleavage.

I'd just like to correct you regarding the name, we're not Quranists, we're Muslims because even messenger/prophet Abraham called us with this name, long time before messenger/prophet Muhammad.

2278 And strive in the cause of God its truly deserved striving. He is the One who has chosen you, and He has made no hardship for you in the system, the creed of your father Abraham; He is the One who named you those who have submitted from before and in this. So let the messenger be witness over you and you be witness over the people. So hold the bond and contribute towards purification and hold tight to God, He is your patron. What an excellent Patron, and what an excellent Supporter.

Regarding swimming i'm not fully informed regarding this issue so as soon as i do the research, i'll let you know, God willing.
I do know that we must both lower our gazes, men and women.
Check The Quran, cjapter 24, verses 31 and 31.

              God bless you.
              Peace.

Thanks, I have a lot to learn as I have only been studying Islam for a about 6 months and had no previous knowledge.

I am now intrigued by the meaning of the striking of feet hmm

I only referred to 'Quaranists' as a way to differentiate from any other types of Muslim....after all, life would be very different/difficult if we didn't have labels to set us apart from each other
                peace

For an analysis of the phrase "striking of feet", see that misconceptions link. Also, more recently, I wrote the following

                  8 )
wala yadribna bi-arjulihinna = and let them not strike/stamp with their feet

                  M. Asad translates it as "swing their legs", and in his notes says The phrase yadribna bi-arjulihinna is idiomatically similar to the phrase daraba bi-yadayhi fi mishyatihi, "he swung his arms in walking" (quoted in this context in Taj al-'Arus), and alludes to a deliberately provocative gait.
This expression seems to effectively imply any movement of the feet that would result in revealing beauty that is meant to be hidden is not allowed (see the full verse of 2431). It may be interesting to note that to restrict its meaning to strike/stamp would still allow hidden beauty to be revealed by other types of feet movement, thus one could argue for a simpler translation such as move about, put/cast forth, propound, set. See 3842 as a comparison, which more clearly implies a literal usage.

My understanding of 'strike' is the way some women sway their hips when moving.

On swimming, a normal costume covering the private area and the breasts would suffice in such a setting.
