If you can't marry a non believer then why are we being allowed to marry christians?

YUSUFALI Do not marry unbelieving women (idolaters), until they believe A slave woman who believes is better than an unbelieving woman, even though she allures you. Nor marry (your girls) to unbelievers until they believe A man slave who believes is better than an unbeliever, even though he allures you. Unbelievers do (but) beckon you to the Fire. But Allah beckons by His Grace to the Garden (of bliss) and forgiveness, and makes His Signs clear to mankind That they may celebrate His praise.005.005
YUSUFALI This day are (all) things good and pure made lawful unto you. The food of the People of the Book is lawful unto you and yours is lawful unto them. (Lawful unto you in marriage) are (not only) chaste women who are believers, but chaste women among the People of the Book, revealed before your time,- when ye give them their due dowers, and desire chastity, not lewdness, nor secret intrigues if any one rejects faith, fruitless is his work, and in the Hereafter he will be in the ranks of those who have lost (all spiritual good).Good hunting.

Both are distinct and enjoy identity exclusive to each other in the worldly life.
They are distinct in their identification from the non believers from amongst the People of Book
Notwithstanding their refusal to accept/believe the People of the Book should NEVER be equated with since Allah recognizes them as a distinct entity-people. We invite them to join us on a single point

You people invite the people of Book, "O you the people of the Book! You people come with us on a single platform/understanding/concept which is common/same/alike between us and between you people

that we will not be subservient/slave except exclusively for Allah and we will not ascribe anyone as partner/equal/like Allah and nor will we adopt some from amongst ourselves as lords/god-fathers instead of Allah alone."
