Praying to Bukhari

I have a quesiton. I knew a Sunni a long time ago who went to Imam Bukhari's grave and actually prayed that Bukhari make dua for his marriage. Meaning he asked Bukhari, a dead man, to pray to Allah for him and his wife.
I believe, and may Allah forgive me if I'm wrong, that this person committed Shirk by doing this.
What do you think? He justified his actions by saying that he didn't pray to Bukhari to give him anything, but simply that Bukhari should pray to Allah, since Bukhari is closer to Allah as a dead human being (according to him). He said that this was a form of intercession, and not shirk, since he doesn't "worship" Bukhari.
Any thoughts on this? I think if it's not shirk, then it's definitely associating partners with Allah.
The fact said sunni thinks Bukhari has any kind of significant and/or religious status shows he's an idiot.

Tawassul as sunnis/shias know it is exactly that seeking a prayer through a person who is apparently "closer" to God than us.
I think it's stupid.
If you don't speak arabic; then you need a 'mediator' to speak to Allah, as Allah speaks Arabic...
BTW, many people also 'glorify' muhammad, in hope to earn the favour from (dead) Muhammad.. thus Muhammad will do 'auto forwarding' of their 'prayer' straight to Allah, (and do some translation to Arabic as well; if needed). Allah will 'pay more attention ' to what Muhammad said to Him, since apparently he is close to Allah, and the fact that he is now dead, makes him now much closer to Allah.
For many Xtians the above statement is the same thing, just find and replace the following words.
- Muhammad - > Jesus
- Allah -> Father

Bro, it's a notion. you don't need to speak arabic, think about all the other prophets did they all speak arabic? for arguments sake assume they did what about Sulaiman understanding the speech of birds???? how could Allah know that if Allah only speaks arabic?
The lord that created us knows and understands us.
Nowhere does it say you need to speak arabic to call upon/supplicate to God.
actually they glorify Muhammed because of their understanding of 3356 with the mix up of a hadith that says along the lines of He doesn't like the miserly ones, the ones who are miserly are the ones who don't send blessings to the prophet after his name is being mentioned. off course they think they get extra hasanat for sending blessings and thus, believing in his message + sending the blessings gets intercession on judgement day apparently according to the sunnis.
but this is just ridiculous logic, our 'amal/deeds plus God's mercy is what saves us.

Oh, come on, be realistic. God speaks every language there is. He reads our thoughts, he knows everything. Do you really think that some small tribe somewhere with a different language that no one else speaks is more intelligent than God?

They are alive with god not with you and me they cannot see or hear us so those verses are irrelevant. ???
