SO can we use worm holes to travel in time?

Yes, if they really exist. But once again, only forward

Every time i fall to sleep i'd fast-forward in time, does that count?

So if you travel forward are you stuck there forever since you can't go back in time?

If you are travelling faster than the speed of light, wouldn't you be in complete darkness until you slow down and light catches up with you?

And wouldn't the world have to travel at the same rate in order to exist in that world? ???

So you're stuck in darkness with nothing around you for the rest of your life? &

No you would still see light coming towards you from the direction you are travelling and "old" light from the sides

And wouldn't the world have to travel at the same rate in order to exist in that world? ???

Not if you were travelling towards it. If you were travelling away, you just wouldn't see it as it is

So you're stuck in darkness with nothing around you for the rest of your life? &

No, because you are assuming that you would be travelling at that speed for the rest of your life. You could slow down. Who knows what other things you might see that we can't see at the speed we are going now?

If you slow down or even stop you will be moving at the same rate as the normal world except you are ahead by so many seconds/ minutes/hours/days.etc

Who knows what other things you might see that we can't see at the speed we are going now?

hmm maybe another world. could be identical to ours. creepy!

Yer all mad! As you just approach the speed of light your mass increases dramatically so that at the speed of light it becomes infinite. That means you turn into a black hole and get all the life you've got left squished out of you! Never mind you'd have to find an infinite amount of energy just to accelerate up to the speed of light in the first place let alone trying to slow down again.

I think that theory isn't practical.

Using Einstein's theory that would be almost correct, but we were talking theoretically. In any event it is Einstein's theory that proves the bending of time/space and the distortion of time allowing a person to "effectively" travel forward in time.

                          Salam,

In Quran, God says, we cannot stop death. We cannot postpone the exact time of death and even cannot expedite it.

Example, some people face death in his cosy bed. Some people did not die, even in dangerous car accident. Almighty God already set the time of our death to exact seconds.

So, in that regard, it's not possible in our lifetime to pull or push our time travel or tunnel. Example, we advice our friend not to drive fast. In few hours he met a tragic fatal accident. Why? We already advice him. It's just that he just follow the timeline towards death. Then we think, if I could call him at least 5 minutes before the accident, just to slow his car down. Well, we just cannot afford to do that. Proof, our life is full of why's? Why he's dead? Why he don't follow my advice?

Conclusion, we only pray to ALmighty God. He knows what's best for us. It seems that we cannot control our timeline as we control our Playstation 3.

So says conventional wisdom. On the other hand, subatomic particles can move significantly faster than the speed of light IF in a non-vacuum (Cherenkov radiation or photons moving through cesium vapor at 310x the speed of light come to mind). Some subatomic particles have measurable mass. Even if the mass is so minute to be unmeasurable, infinity times "very very small" equals infinity, amirite? If photons/light have no mass, then how can the attraction of light by the gravity of a black hole be explained? How can an object with momentum lack mass, especially considering the definition of momentum?! If the subatomic particles are moving "faster than the speed of light", then why do they lack infinite mass? On logical grounds alone, I dispute conventional wisdom in this matter.

There are no fixed laws in science, only the theory of the moment. I postulate that energy and space-time are related much as energy and matter are related. If true, properly focused energy could displace space-time (think flux capacitor from the movie "Back to the Future&quot. The amount of energy in a watch battery (properly focused) could probably displace an amount of energy much smaller than the nucleus of an atom. To displace enough space-time to send a human would require an immense amount of energy. Further, the amount of energy required to displace space-time is surely enough to disassociate matter--to "transport" anything will require the severing of space-time around the person or object to be sent! Even if the aforementioned obstacles are overcome, control of the destination location and time ~seems~ to be insurmountable.

My take is that time travel may someday be possible, but it will probably never be practical. There are more pressing issues for technology to address.

                            peace

being able to go back in time, implies that you will introduce/create new energy in the past. This is ofcoase immpossible...

A valid point, but one which is true ONLY if our understanding of physics on this point is true. Why take anything for granted? How many scientific "laws" of the past are now disproven?

Even bearing in mind conservation of energy...what if the equivalent energy was transported "forward" at the same time as matter is transported "backward"? 100 units transported back, 100 units transported forward. Conservation of energy is not violated. As much as you can't have two objects in the same space at the same time, I see no reason for space-time to follow a different paradigm.

We simply don't know enough to say with certainty either way. For all we know, UFOs could be time machines!

                                    Here is the problem with "time travel";

The universe dies instant to instant, and it gets reborn like so (mentioned in quran, also a point of study in quantum mechanics). There is perhaps a single set of changes that define the difference between two instants. So this means the ONLY thing that exists is this moment now. The information about the past is all encoded in what we observe in the present moment.

Now to go back in time would require that you perhaps observed all the changes reversing themselves, and perfectly so. The problem with that is that all the changes that form a single forward step in time by nature have a probability of 1 in 1 occuring but as a direct result of that, the probability of all the changes reversing is 1 in infinity, i.e. 0.

In essence, ALLAH does not ever go back on his word, and for what reason should he? Letting us time travel back so we can eat that extra portion of chips with salad this time round, versus keeping all the zillions of stars balanced, be serious!

Now, as for photons moving faster than the speed of light, they don't. All matter obeys the speed limit of information, of which the speed of light is a direct result of. The phase velocity is allowed to exceed the speed of light because it's not a real speed in a sense, no information is transferred. The attraction of light is explained by the fact that black holes cause curvature of space around them.

There is something called a geodesic, which extends the concept of the shortest line between two points to any kind of space you think of. A black hole makes all the geodesics point into its event horizon and light as a particle always follows the nearest geodesic.

Having said that, there is a possible method that this could be possible. It's called the Alcubierre metric, look it up. If you flew away to the edge of space faster than light then looked back upon earth with some stupidly powerful telescope you could observe the past. However there is no changing the past once the light has made its decision. And remember that ALLAH is the light of the universe.

Will you please provide surah for reference? The ?perhaps? statement does not logically lead to ONLY. A better turn of phrase might be IF and ONLY IF a single set of charges define (etc)...THEN this means (etc).

Now to go back in time would require that you perhaps observed all the changes reversing themselves, and perfectly so. Why accept an unproven statement as fact? IF what you write is true, time travel would seem to be impossible for us. The IF has not been proven.

In essence, ALLAH does not ever go back on his word, and for what reason should he? Letting us time travel back so we can eat that extra portion of chips with salad this time round, versus keeping all the zillions of stars balanced, be serious!

To my knowledge, Allah has not forbidden time travel. Do you/or anybody else have knowledge to the contrary? Unless there is evidence that Allah forbids time travel, if it can exist then there is no reason why it should not. If it cannot exist, then the discussion is frivolous.

Now, as for photons moving faster than the speed of light, they don't. Um?scientists accelerated photons to 310 times the speed of light in the year 2000. Here are a few references. If people are mistaken about something so fundamental, what else are we taking for granted?

Light behaves like both a particle and a wave?and we neither know everything about it nor anything else. Take a sheet of paper?consider it to be one light year across as a thought experiment. What is the shortest distance from edge to edge? Now, fold the paper in half, edge to edge. Are the edges closer now? This is one example of how faster than light travel may, Allah willing, be possible some day.

There are a several possibilities postulated (including Alcubierre drives and wormholes), and Allah willing, more theory will come about.

                                      peace

                                        Peace,

Here is a quote from one of the articles you referenced

"This effect cannot be used to send information back in time," said Lijun Wang, a researcher with the private NEC Institute. "However, our experiment does show that the generally held misconception that 'nothing can travel faster than the speed of light' is wrong."

Now, I couldn't find the exact verse I was talking about but basically it's one in which it says that ALLAH recreates the universe instant to instant. It reminds me of the concept of wavefunction collapse and re-establishment. Rest assured that this verse does exist and I will eventually find it by the will of the almighty.

The reason I say time travel is impossible is because the speed of information/truth is a fundamental barrier that shall not be breached. It's the speed of ALLAH's execution of his plan, if you will. If you want to time travel, you must go faster than ALLAH's command in some way or other.

Also, there are no unprovable statements but only logical inferences in my post. It is logical that the most likely thing to happen is indeed what will happen. I say perhaps because I'm very careful with my wording and I'm not here to mislead.

As for what you said about light, that's exactly where the notion of a geodesic comes in. Do keep in mind that while physicists may not have the guidance of ALLAH, they are forced to work with pure objective truth for their equations to make any sense. And the objective truth comes only from ALLAH.

There are many verses in al-quran where it clearly says that the universe is made with truth and it has been created for the separation of truth and falsehood (211. If you could go back in time, you would be able to modify what is objective truth and what is not. Then what is the point of the judgement day that ALLAH promises us?

My understanding is that time travel is impossible from now till judgement day. After judgement day, because we will be immortal, there will essentially be no such thing as time - the way things are for the rest of the universe already. With every birth comes a death until all dualities are reduced back to the unity (i.e. all truth and falsehood is separated).

                                          Greetings and peace, all group

Does time travel (if time travel is possible) contradict truth? Just because we ~think~ we know an "endstate" doesn't mean that it (the perceived endstate) is absolute--relativity may be involved.

Let me put it another way Do you believe that the endstate of a successful time travel would surprise Allah? The question is absurd. Truth would still exist--only human perception was violated/deceived.

To us, truth is largely limited to our knowledge and perceptions. These limits mean that our knowledge of truth is limited, except as Allah wills. Because we can't see the "big picture," it is possible that truth--through human perception--is subjective and not objective. Truth belongs to Allah alone, except as Allah permits.

If time travel is possible, it is not immoral/haram. Is it possible within the laws of science and nature that the Allmighty has laid out--that is the question.

Pardon the pun, but I doubt that we'll be seeing time travel within our "time."

                                          peace
