Kabah
-
from my understandin the pilgrimage is to the holy city of jerusalem.
Can someone elaborate for me the meanin of the verse in surah maida ayah number 95
it says that sacrificices should be offered to the kaba..
the verse says hadiyan baligal ka'bati
does it mean that the sacrifice should be made in the vicinity of the ka'ba
or on the ka'ba the rock
is the fucntion of the ka'ba an altar for sacrifice

Peace,
I am more and more thinking in the Ka'ba as the base to be the people involved in the management of the HAJJ.
As in 595 people should send the feeding to the Ka'ba.As when we talk about a political movement we often refer to the base as the people who are the base of the movement (e.g. AlQaida= the basement ).
This would explain that these people are in charge of the management and distribution of feed during the hajj.

Peace,
@herbman, i'm interested in ka'aba as a "base" or homebase -- that does make sense. have you attempted to explain it further somewhere?
And what about headquarter? As for "Tawaf" i think it simply just means "visit" but i haven't really seek into it.

@herbman Thank you but that was what i'm referring to... ;D
visit is only one possible meaning indeed, but for sure there are movements of people about/around this "base" (monument/spatial reference point/place?), where people are to be 'humbly receptive' to each other...
insha Allah i may come to it as it is related with rukka'an sujjadan which i'm currently observing.
Good luck with your observation )

Peace All
I have been investigating the concept of hajj in the quran & I posted the following translation on another thread, but did not get any feedback. So here it is again.
I am in the process of studying the subject & have looked at 2158. This is how I have interpreted it. As I said, my study of this subject is a work in progress, so your comments will be welcome.
-
I have found to mean "the clarification" based on its primary root verb meaning of "he clarified/brought clarity, etc."
-
When looking at , I found it difficult to pinpoint a root verb for what most consider to be the root, i.e "miim-raa-waw". I then considered the possibility of the root being "miim-raa-alif". This pointed to a root verb indcating a process by which one extracts that which is wholesome/good, etc.
-
seems to indicate intimate knowledge from its root verb.
-
When I looked at , I found that the it incorporated the idea of a debate/argument in the sense of overcoming someone through the use of evidence, which seems to be a common understanding on this forum. I also noticed that "to aim at something or having a goal in mind", also it has a meaning of "curing or repairing" something. This last meaning may be mostly in relation to the curing of a head wound, which could be extended to " curing the wrong thinking about something (or maybe this extension is stretching it too far?). Either way, I have come to a meaning of "aiming at the curing of wrong thinking through the use of evidence" or "correcting an erroneous concept through the presentation of strong evidence/arguments".
-
I was surprised to see that the word is derived from a root that carries a meaning of spending the night awake considering any number of things (good or bad).
-
The word , being form 8 of the verb would indicate the act that results if the form 1 verb was initiated. Therefore I think that in this case it would indicate that the living/acting out of the conclusions reached through the deliberation of , which at its culmination will provide the most convincing evidence that of the decisions taken since the benefits will be plain for all to see.
-
indicates acknowledgment of efforts by providing abundantly.
Using these conclusions, this is how I would interpret the verse
Truly the clarification and extraction of what is good from the intimate knowledge possessed by God is for those who aim at correcting/curing/repairing erroneous concepts through the presentation of strong evidence/arguments, staying awake at night to ponder these concepts or living the conclusions reached through such deliberation and in so doing provide the ultimate proof of these concepts through their concrete results. There is no blame on him if he moves about and attaches himself to them (clarification and extraction). And they who effect the obedience of what is good, then truly God is acknowledging of the efforts of such people by providing abundant nourishment as proof of their success, Knowledgable.

Peace,
@1CELOSTNOWFOUND (um, d'you have a shorter nickname? )
Thank you for sharing that. I'm currently observing SalaAt and all concepts related (ruku`, sujud, masjid, Haram, qibla, ...), and while i still have to put it all in a more presentable form, i'm kind of surprised (in a good way) that these are all beginning to fit into a concept already very natural to us...
bayt itself, as you said
= Ba-Ya-Ta
by/in/at night (excluding sleep), entered upon or passed the night
tent, house, home
Thinking about something and its end result
Concealed or conceived something in the mind
A structure of clay or any structure signifying a habitation, an abode or dwelling.
Buildings, uninhabited houses, shops, ruins, bazaars, places where the entering is allowed by the owners.
Ark of Noah, Mosques, places of worship, Kaabeh or Jerusalem
A grave
Household or family
Nobility
Sudden attack in the night or a surprise attack in the night
Remaining through the night (e.g. bread or water that stays out and becomes stale)What makes a family/household? Could it be spending the night together before going to sleep? Where would the family (group of people) spend the night together? The concept of bayt is not just the place, nor it is just the people, nor it is just the activity of spending the night. A more whole understanding would be that b-y-t is an event where/when a group of people, like a family, spending the night together, in a place made open to them. The next question would be what are they doing (i.e. what is their activity) when they spend the night together in a place?
I think it might be very (if not directly) related to SalaAt `ishaa', the evening/night SalaAt, and the concept of rukka'an (humbly) sujjadan with each other, in the process of establishing the Dyn and ultimately to remember The God and to remain attached to Him (r-H-m comes to mind--or heart? ).
This is one verse where most of those fit into one
1087 And We inspired to Moses and his brother, "tabawwa your people with/by miSra buytan and make your buyt qiblatan and aqm AlSalat and give good news to the believers."
tabawwa'a vb. (5) impv
= Ba-Waw-Alif = returned, went/came back, he bore or took upon himself, became ladened/burdened, became the abiding-place thereof, became answerable/accountable/responsible, equal/alike, a match, rested/remained, lodged him in an abode, mubawwa a dwelling, place of lodging, settlement, tabawwa to take or make as one's dwelling.= Miim-Sad-Ra (e.g. misra, maseeru) = he made it (namely a town) a limit/boundary between two things, partition, barrier, limit, great town, Egypt.
note "Egypt" makes the least sense. personally i'd choose "boundary"
Buyt (plural) was/were the qiblat for Moses and his people. Our qiblat is "masjid AlHaram". Please also compare the number of people in Moses' society/community to the number of people in our time.
For now, see "qiblat" not as a "physical direction", as "masjid AlHaram" -- which we are to face anywhere we are -- may not be something physical at all. It is related, i think, to another concept which is, again, very natural to humanity and just feel right at home, like "those who were given the Scripture would know it like they know their children".
Insha Allah we can work together on this. Any humble feedback is really welcome. Rukka`an sujjadan...
Peace.
