    Salam Alaikum,

This is an interesting topic. I thought if you could make it up, that is good, but the reason you missed it was relevant. What about those people who miss it because they can't do it, i.e. sickness etc.? Obviously intention counts, so is this the reference to remembering on your sides etc.>

Also what does this part mean "When you are relieved, you shall uphold the bond/commitment (salat); " ? Isnt' that when you are relieved from the burden which interfered with you praying, then you shall uphold the obligation?

I have not read anything about this, so it would be great if someone knows what this is refering to.

    Thanks for the help,

    Salams sun

Gee wiz...I had a discussion with people who call themselves Submitters...they follow Rashad Khalifa as the messanger of the covenant. They maintain that salat is definitely prescibed in al Quran for the 5 prayer times of morning, noon, afternoon, dusk, and night. They also told me that salat needs to be said in Arabic because there are 19 consonant sounds that are in accord with the code 19...to unlock the contact with Allah. I am wondering what people think about this information.

They also had neutral to negative perceptions about Brother Edip...calling him misguided. I am too confused at this poin and I am alone to deal with this confusion...please help!!! &

Do you really think you can unlock contact with Allah by 19 consonant sounds?! ? seriously??

2186 (Asad) AND IF My servants ask thee about Me - behold, I am near; I respond to the call of him who calls, whenever he calls unto Me let them, then, respond unto Me, and believe in Me, so that they might follow the right way.

I don't see "In arabic to unlock the code 19 to be closer to Allah!"

Don't let codes mess up your head, seek the message not the numbers. Also disregard people's views of others especially if you don't know them or their works.

4912 (Asad) O you who have attained to faith! Avoid most guesswork for, behold, some of guesswork is a sin; and do not spy upon one another, and neither allow your?selves to speak ill of one another behind your backs. Would any of you like to eat the flesh of his dead brother? Nay, you would loathe it! And be conscious of God. Verily, God is an accep tor of repentance, a dispenser of grace!

        Salam

          Peace Dariush, all

Let the number 19 stays as number--a tool. If there is anything that will aids us best in maintaining "contact" with Allah, The God, then it must be this

2153 O you who believe, seek help through patience (AlSabr) and through the bond (AlSalaat), God is with the patient ones.
2154 And do not say of those who are killed in the cause of God that they are dead; no, they are alive but you do not perceive.
2155 And We will test you with some fear and hunger, and a shortage in money and lives and fruits. And give good news to those who are patient.
2156 The ones who, when afflicted with adversity, they say We are to God and to Him we will return.
2157 For those there will be bonds (Salawat) from their Lord and a mercy, they are the guided ones.

Right, it is Sabr -- perseverance/patience -- through life until death.

          Peace

oops, sorry, i meant "Sabr through life until departure." )

and may God grows Sabr--patience-- in us.

I had similar encounter with them regarding salat, though I was with them praying together and studying together before I got to realise some mistakes in there believes. I debated the issue of salat with them and they could not come up with any tangible evidence regarding there stand of 5 salat. And the idea of the lips touching each other 19 times was first discover by the same person the call misguided. You can check the appendix of 'the final testament' by Rashad Khalifa. He stated it out that Edip discovered it.

That's what I was thinking, too. We can certainly pray and ask for forgiveness, but if you missed it, then you missed it, period. And God knows best.

This idea of making up missed prayers always seemed "strange" to me, similar to the Sunni teachings that reciting certain duas wipes out hundreds or thousands of sins. For example

In various books of Hadith like Sahih al-Bukhari, Sahih Muslim, Al-Tirmidhi, Abu Dawood, Al-Muwatta, Al-Sunan al-Sughra, Ibn Maja, Darmi, Ahmad Bayhaqi and Miskhaat Shareef, certain benifits of reciting Durood are mentioned. Below is a list of some mainly from Sahih al-Bukhari

Bad deeds of 200 years (equivalent) are obliterated if a man recites 100 Durood on Friday.
Anyone who recites Durood will overcome all their troubles.
Reciting maximum number of Durood Shareef is full compensation of all sins.

                And many more at http//en.wikipedia.org/wiki/Durood#Durood-e-Ibrahimi

I do a lot of zikr in my prayers so when I miss a salat then I would have not completed my daily numbers of zikr. I find it awkward to do zikr outside salat but i try to do so every now and then. But i rely on salat for doing my zikr. So to me missing has certain consequences. I think that there would always be a time where you would miss it but i try not to make a habit of it because the shaitan is always trying to push you away from the salat and make you abandon it altogether. Plus there are times when you are feeling depressed and angry and its hard to pray in those times. But not doing so means you are not able to handle tribulations and trials. But its a challenge to be consistent in salat. But anything that is of value is never easy. God accepts your salat even if you do not feel like it so I think that salat should be consistent since thats the challenge in it and not just when you have idle time or feeling happy.

Yeah I was explained by a submitter that when you say the Al-Fatiha in Arabic your lips will touch each other 19 times. I tried it and counted and yeah, my lips did close 19 times. Personally, when I do salat I say the Al-Fatiha in arabic but every other praise in salat I do is an english translation ei (God is the Greatest / Glory to My Lord the Greatest / God responds to those who praise Him / Glory to my Lord the Highest /at the end I bear witness there is no other god besides God / Peace be with you) But I've talked to submitters that say every part of salat should be done in english, when I feel isn't true. Salat is for our benefit, Not God's, and when I am finished salat often I can feel the benefit, a feeling of refreshment, something that I know I have never felt when I was catholic saying rosaries which would leave me feeling drained (and still catholics will say it is good to feel drained after prayer, almost like we are giving something of efforts that God needs, which He doesn't)

As far as missing dawn and evening prayers, even if you had your own private jet and can chase the dawn and evening if you happen to miss it, I think it's best to just do it next time, not that next time is ever guaranteed.

Everyone has their own theories ay, God knows where they all come from.

for the fun of it i said alfatiha and counted, i didn't get 19. did you look in the mirror and do it? or did you count when your lips closed upon each other like for e.g. the letter meem? lol it sounds weird "lips touch each other 19 times" is that supposed to be a sign?

I think it's a concern when people start saying "you have to do this that way or this way" without any evidence.

Lol, yeah I agree with you. not that it matters but

BISMIL (2) LAAHIR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM (4)
AL HAMDU (5)LILLAHI RABBIL AALAMEEN (7) AR RAHMAANIR RAHEEM (9) MAALIKI YAWMID DEEN (11) EYYAAKA NABUDU, WA EYYAAKA NASTAEEN (12) EH'DENAS SIRAATAL MUSTAQEEM (14) SIRAATAL LAZINA ANAMTA ALAYHIM (16) GHAYRIL MAGHDOOBI ALAYHIM WALADDAALEEN (19)

Basically the B and M sounds
I don't beleive in coincidences but I don't think this should be attached to the 19 miracle and used as proof that this verse has to be said in arabic in order to get the spiritual benefit of salat

How true! Thanks to Ar-Rahman we are excused if we are sick or traveling.

                        The challenge is discipline.

(Irving) Order your household to pray and to discipline themselves by means of it. We do not ask you for any provision; yet We will provide for you, and the outcome rests on doing your duty.

I like to tell new converts to just be dedicated to one salah per day, but give it extreme priority in your list of daily activities and give it the best attention you can. I believe one good salah is way better than 5 rushed, absent-minded ones.

Establish regluar prayer is the command. That means consistency.

How often is up to you.

                        Peace.

Doesn?t ?waw? close similar to how ?ba? does? So wouldn?t it be more than 19? Lol anyway such a theory is silly to me.

Abdullah, salat is to be twice, not once

11114 (Asad) And be constant in praying at the beginning and the end of the day, as well as during the early watches of the night for, verily, good deeds drive away evil deeds this is a reminder to all who bear in mind.

but i guess if people can perform it at least once, good for them. Our deeds are to our benefit anyway
