Humans have a habit of having names after animals and birds; for individuals as well as for the groups and tribes.
Ant is English translation of the word Namal of Arabic language; it is a fact that a tribe or people existed at that time of Solomon with this name; and the name still exists; one could find it on the internet

It could be name of a tribe and some scholars of Quran have already interpreted these ayats as such like Parwez Ahmad and Dr Shabbir.
