I think the question of "what is marriage; what does quran say about it and is it the same as it is today?" should be asked.

We're already having a discussion about this topic.

I'm going to do some reading but so far i feel marriage today may not be exactly how quran prescribes.

so if the question of what constitutes a marriage is debatable this will be too.

I think others know freeminders differ in opinion.

      peace.

        peace.

Isn't Marriage simply a trust set up between two individuals to love one another and fulfillfill each others rights.

It's the same the world over, isn't it?

It is even observed to an extent in the animal kingdom.

But saying that the above is simply a poll as sex as it can impregnate women , but the burdan should be carried by both partners and shouldn't be left on the shoulders of only one-so Marriage becomes a must before sex - i think, and is as the quran is saying also.

        God Bless.

We are having a similar discussion about this in another thred. It keeps going in circles because we have not yet defind what we mean by pre-marital sex. I have not actually researched this subject before. The verses regarding this topic is complex Arabic. The translations are usually fudged. This issue is one of the issue the Sects fudged greatly.

I also realized many do not really understand how Sunnis and Shia understand the term "marriage". For them a person can actually be technically married but is really having a mistress or having a prostitutional arrangement.

They see nothing wrong with that as long as certain criteria is met. You are having a mistress and you are having prostitutional relationship but you are still "married". This is there way to permit what God did not permit and forbidding what God did not forbid. They do this on all kinds of issues. Remember for these guys usually they have an ideology from some hadith somewhere and then they try to fit that into Islam. They simply expect the Quran to follow them behind.

They see Salat, Haj and Zakat and almost anything else the same way. They remind me of the Pharisees in the Gospel. They had a similar mentality that Jesus criticized them for.

A very different from of marriage than what the Quran is saying. We need our own QURANIC definition of what is a marriage. Then we can identify what is meant by pre marital sex or sex outside marriage.
