    Peace all, Salam,

I am currently searching deeper the meaning of word Masjid in the Reading.

Can you please help with this verse

    2114

And who is more unjust than he who forbids that in places for the worship of Allah His name should be celebrated? Whose zeal is (in fact) to ruin them? It was not fitting that such should themselves enter them except in fear. For them there is nothing but disgrace in this world and in the world to come, an exceeding torment.

so masjid is accusative masculine plural noun
    as per PRL
    masjid n.m. (pl. masajid) 2114, 2144, 2149, 2150, 2187, 2191, 2196, 2217, 52, 729, 731, 834, 97, 917, 918, 919, 928, 9107, 9108, 171, 171, 177, 1821, 2225, 2240, 4825, 4827, 7218

and FIHA seems to be a 3rd person feminine singular object pronoun? To what FIHA refer to?

    can you please help?

    Thanks

      peace herbman, all,

      Interesting sign/verse.

According to corpus.quran.com the way it is commonly translated does not fit with the grammar, or at least does not seem to.

In such cases, I find it handy looking at the literal translation of M&S Ahmed, found here
      http//www.islamawakened.com/Quran/2/114/default.htm

      Transliteration
Waman athlamu mimman manaAAa masajida Allahi an yuthkara feeha ismuhu wasaAAa fee kharabiha ola-ika ma kana lahum an yadkhulooha illa kha-ifeena lahum fee alddunya khizyun walahum fee al-akhirati AAathabun AAatheemun

      Literal
And who is more unjust/oppressive from (than) who prevented (in) God's mosques that His name be mentioned/remembered in it, and strived/hastened in its destruction/spoilage . Those, it was not for them that they enter it except afraid/frightened. For them in the present world (is) shame/disgrace and for them in the end (other life) (is a) great torture.

There could be something in it (no pun intended).

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Big quistion where do we find God or the devil -in a mans actions or a brick built structure? Look into the names or the attributes of God to know.

        2114
And who is more unjust than he who forbids actions (of) Allah to admonish/heed according to/by His attributes/distinctions and strive in their ruin these people not was for them to enter them except in fear. For them there is nothing but disgrace in this world and in the world to come, an exceeding torment.

        Example;

A liar will fear the truth, a dishonest person will fear the truth, and an adulterer will fear being found out?.e.t.c

        peace

          Hi Simple, Wakas, all,

          Thanks for your feedback.

          @simple

Your message make sense, I also doubt about the standard meaning of Masjid/Massajid to be a building, I think more about "state of obedience".
And for Massajid , "states of obedience", I am trying to target the different "states" as by the Reading, one of these state is the so called "masjid al haram"!

You have translated it by "actions" please provide justification.

Also, please clarify/help what do you mean by "Look into the names or the attributes of God to know"?

Now comes the issue of the pronoun "ha" in the words "fiha", "kharabiha", and "yadkhulooha"
          we have 2 options
1- Massajid is not the plural of masjid, one is feminin and the other is masculin!
2- the pronoun refer to something else, depending on the context. What is it? I don't know yet.

          Regards

            Salam all,

            here is my understanding

            2114

And who is more unjust than he who forbids that in MASSAJID (states of obedience) of Allah His name is remembered in it (the obedience) ? Whose zeal is (in fact) to ruin it (the obedience)? It was not fitting that such should themselves enter it (the obedience) except in fear. For them there is nothing but disgrace in this world and in the world to come, an exceeding torment.

            where is feminin.

            Peace

              Oupps

Apparently this is a grammatical rule in arabic where object and animals are replaced by a singular feminin pronoun.

              Peace

Dear Herbman, purpose of my postings about linguistic issues, as well calling Quranic Arabic as a lost language; is not to tell people, what to think? But to make them think. I am so glad that your doing, just that. May Rabb bless us all.

masajid is the plural of masjid(a plural on the pattern of "mafaaeel" like madaris as the plural of madrassa and manasik as plural of mansak). the pronoun"haa" in "fihaa" definetely refers to the mosques. Besides being used for singular feminine,it is also also used for "jamaa mukassar(broken plural-irregular plural).
