Assalamu Alaykum
Just wanted to know if there was a reason why many people do not put PBUH or some other form of respect next to messengers names. I think it just gives them some respect. Is there a reason why people dont do it? Do you consider it excessive praise? Your thought will be appreciated.

God and His angels make contact with the prophet. O you who believe, you shall make contact with him, and comply completely.

I really dont see how puttin PBUH is a sign of respect, I see the hadeethists write it all the time but they apparently dont want to show enough respect to actually write out the entire phrase, "peace be upon him", do they really think its respectable to just put the initials, is it too tiring and bothersome to spell it out all the way, well whats the point at all, another silly practice if you ask me.

Personally i don't think it's totally bad to say "peace be upon him" but the reason why people say it, is kinda funny. people attribute the verse 3356 as needing to say pbuh but fail to look into the verse, context and cross references. hadith supports saying PBUH, why? because apparently a person who doesn't say pbuh after the name of Mohammed is "stingy". What i found difficult to comprehend is that this man is promised jannah why do traditionalists feel the need to give him more blessings? Also why do they say "allayhi salam" to other prophets and not "salah Allah 3alahi wa salem?" Mohammed got the special status...

I say PBUH or (Her) or PBUT (Them).
I dont think its idolitry, nor do I think its haraam.
Even if my great uncle died...or my friend...I would say PBUH....its just like saying (Rest in Peace).This is what I HATE about some so called Quranists...
Some will develoupe their own hadith.For instance, I saw a Question on the Submission Website...where someone asked if it was haraam to handle a Quran without Washing your hands first.
or about having a beard...or about having a Quran in the same room where you have sex...and basically, I felt the answeres that were given were stupid, and totally Missed the entire point of that!

Just because you wash your hands before you touch the Quran doesnt mean you are any Less of a "Submitter"
*-It just means that perhaps you probabily scratched your private parts, picked your nose, or had chocolate on your hands without knowing...and you just want to make the extra step by being "CLEAN and RESPECTFUL" when handling Important things such as the Quran. -
just because you put the quran and religious things of that nature in a drawer or in another room wile you have sex with your wife/husband...doesnt mean your some Hadithist Pegan muslim...
Again it just means that you want to take the extra precaution and clean/respect to making sure the Quran doesnt get damaged or dirty or is even close to the vicinity when you are about to engage in that act...(I.e. You wouldnt have a Quran sitting on top of your toilet as reading material would you? of course Not astaghfirullah! The Quran is more important then some "Better Homes and Garden Magizen you read in the bathroom). -
Just because you say PBUH or a varriation of that doesnt mean your some Pegan Anti-god Muslim Mohammadian.
Yeah.. because saying PBUH is really really pegan and bad! (lol) so instead we should say NPBUH (No Peace be upon him) ???

Where in the Quran we are told to SAY pbuh or WRITE bpuh after Muhammad's name?
In case you do not know the Arabic of those two verbs here they are

UKTUBIf you find such a commandment, I will immediately start putting PBUH after the name of Muhammad, everytime I say or write. Promise. Just give me the verse numbers.

If you want to do that then i see no reason why you should not. Although your reasoning of why you do it could be an issue. Would you say PBUH for other prophets? or for other great people such as Ghandi?
There is no disrespect or lack of respect if you don't use PBUH. If you do use it, it may be extra respect and that's not bad. It may even be good. Depends on the reason you do it and that it does not become something like second nature to you where it just becomes something you always say at the mention of the name.

Anyone who's Body and life has been terminated here on Earth, and is a Rightious Person that does acts to better Humanity....Should not only be Respected in Life, but they Should be respected in death. (this is my personal opinion not hadith).
Allah has said "We have honoured humanity as a whole."(17/70)
The Quran says"The most honoured of you in the sight of Allah is the one who is more obedient to the laws of Allah Almighty." (49/13)
Many times in the Quran it speaks about RESPECT and COMPASSION, and gives another example
The Noble Qur'an An-Nur 2461 ...when you enter the houses, greet one another with a greeting from All?h (i.e. say As-Sal?mu 'Alaikum - peace be on you) blessed and good. Thus All?h makes clear the Ay?t (these Verses or your religious symbols and signs, etc.) to you that you may understand.
The Noble Qur'an An-Nisa 486
When you are greeted with a greeting, greet in return with what is better than it, or (at least) return it equally. Certainly, All?h is Ever a Careful Account Taker of all things.Personally, I feel that If There is another Human Being (be him or her Prophet or Family Member)...Why should you NOT say PBUH or PBUher?
