Right Hand Vs Left Hand
-
I dont think there is any basis in the Quran for it....
However, I do feel that it is a Good Cultural Tradition In the Sense of Manners and Respect.
The Reason why the Right hand is used is because it is your Handshaking hand and Eating hand (in most countries in the world even western.)
In Middleeastern tradition, when you use the toilet and shower, your clean/whipe using your left hand. Your left hand represent the work hand in which does the more personal "nasty" things. So even though both hands are Clean....it is just common courtesy to shake and eat with your right hand...because everyone will known and think in their minds...."OMG, did he just shake my hand with his doo-doo hand!?!?" and that would be very embarassing. lol rotfl
I would try to follow these types of Hadiths...however not as Spiritual Fact...but only as Manners in Society. Just like If I read a Hindu Book that says Not to Drink alot of water before going to bed....(because you may wet the bed) lol...
They are just proverbs made to make like Easier if Followed simply and not as Religious Fact, However by the same token...Can be Made Incredibly Difficult and Stressful if Followed as Religious fact.

Peace
I opt towards sheer craziness.
There is a simple formula towards deciding whether something is acceptable or not, if it is not explicitly mentioned in the Quran.
What effect will this action have ? Will it negatively affect others?, yes then it is to be avoided. Is it neutral ? well then its optional. Is it a positive effect ? Then it should be encouraged.
Life can be simple, and beautiful if we do not have unnecessary lists of do's and dont's.

Thanks for the response. So what do you think of the people who force their left handed children to use their right hand because they believe the other one is haram? I mean I think in this case it goes past etiquette to just sheer craziness?
No you are right bother, My dad is Left Handed. However...He doesnt follow hadiths so... ;D
Like I said brother this is the Easiest way to explain Some "Good intentioned" Hadiths like this one
If they are taken as a simple good Advice.....Then perhaps it may make your life easier..
However if they are taken as Spiritual/Religious Truth....They can make your life a living hell with Strictness. The Quran seems to Promote Cleanliness....If for you "Personnally" using your Right hand only is more clean for you...Id say do it.
However if doing somehting Different is cleaner for you...then id say do that. One thing the Qurans does that Hadiths Dont do....is Let you decide.
One some of the things The Quran is Quiet about...I think its made that way for US to use our Personal mind to figure out for ourselves. Different Strokes for Different Folks. -
No it?s not quranic.. it?s traditional. I think its roots relate to Christianity.. they associate right with goodness such as the ?right hand of God? great men are of the right hand of god hence right hand is preferred? Right not wrong?
Maybe abit crazy calling it haram to write with left hand. I remember as a kid I wrote with both left and right hand, more so with left and my dad would make me write with my right hand. So I grew up right handed but it?s all about how you train yourself or what the child decides as their hand preference. Most people are right handed. But actually people have ambidexterity, they use both hands though mostly only write with one.

here in theses verses God told us that the left position in the day of Judgement is for the infidels and the non-believers.so from these verses we conclude that everything in the left position is not a good thing, in addition to this the hell is in the left position too.
one more thing, this is not a tradition is what the prophet ordered us to do (eat by the right hand, and give charity by the right hand). -

That is your personal conclusion. But being right- or left-handed is not a choice, it is something you are born with, it was God's choice to create you that way. Are you suggesting we should try to change God's creation?
one more thing, this is not a tradition is what the prophet ordered us to do (eat by the right hand, and give charity by the right hand).
Yeah, but this thread was about whether there is a reason for that in the Qur'an. Most people here do not see traditions as binding, as I'm sure you have noticed. )

that is not my personal conclusion, is what logic said " the right part of the mind control the left part of the body, and the left part of the mind control the right part of the body " so as you said that you have a God's creation is wrong, because you're not under the logic, plus doing things by the left hand is a habit you inherted it by using your left hand when you were a child.
by the way my brother eat by his left hand and write by it, but he changed it suddenly to the right hand because after all it's against the nature.
B.S the Satan eat and drink and do things by his left hand.
Yeah, but this thread was about whether there is a reason for that in the Qur'an. Most people here do not see traditions as binding, as I'm sure you have noticed.
well, the traditions things have been said by other memeber, I have just made it clear that is not tradition.
and about justifying from Qur'an that the left hand is not a good thing, I've already put verses. -

In left-handed people, the right hemisphere of the brain is dominant. It is something you are born with and not something you can change or influence.
plus doing things by the left hand is a habit you inherted it by using your left hand when you were a child.
No, it is not a habit, it is dermined through your brain by birth. I suggest you do some research on "lateralization of brain function", then you might see what I am talking about. There is also a lot of research out there about left-handedness and the detrimental effect it has on a person if he or she is forced to use the right hand.
by the way my brother eat by his left hand and write by it, but he changed it suddenly to the right hand because after all it's against the nature.
How can something you are born with be against nature? Sorry, that doesn't make any sense at all.
B.S the Satan eat and drink and do things by his left hand.
Oh really? How do you know -- did you have dinner with him? http//www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/teufel/devil-smiley-019.gif

Yes , it is something that you born with and why do you change it ? by contradicting with the process of this hemisphere.

Yes, it's a habit (because we can deviate it and make it vanish) if it was as you said that someone born with it, it'll impossible to change it, do we change our eyes ?
and about forcing the left-handedness to use the right hand will not make any change, in fact my brother have forced my brother to use his right hand and you know what he is genius I swear rotflHow can something you are born with be against nature? Sorry, that doesn't make any sense at all.
No, you're wrong. It's not something we born with, scientists can say everything to opposite our beliefs, you know that a recent discoveries said that gay is bron gay (I think you belive that a too and it doesn't make sense at all)
Oh really? How do you know -- did you have dinner with him? http//www.clicksmilies.com/s1106/teufel/devil-smiley-019.gif

No, I didn't ...but the prophet peace be upon him told us about that and he knew this thing from God. I can make a jokes as well , so be careful -

You misunderstood my comment.
whether it is from sunnah or not , let's see what the doctors and scientists said
scientists can say everything to opposite our beliefs
Either you believe in science or you don't. But you can't use "doctors and scientists" in one post to support your allegations and say in another post that their opinion is worthless.

You misunderstood my comment.
No, I didn't , making my post short and choosing a part from it , shows that you have no points to make. hmm

HANDEDNESS, LANGUAGE, AND BRAIN LATERALIZATION
Perhaps the most striking anatomical characteristic of the human brain is that it is divided into two hemispheres, so that it has two of almost every structure one on the left side and one on the right. But these paired structures are not exactly symmetrical and often differ in their size, form, and function. This phenomenon is called brain lateralization.
The two most lateralized functions in the human brain are motor control and language. When a function is lateralized, this often means that one side of the brain exerts more control over this function than the other does. The side that exerts more control is often called the ?dominant hemisphere? for this function, but this expression can be somewhat misleading (see sidebar).
Lateralization of motor control is what determines whether someone is right-handed or left-handed. When someone is ambidextrous?when they can use either hand as easily as the other?it means that their brain is only partly lateralized or not at all lateralized for motor control.
In right-handed people, the ?dominant? hemisphere for motor control is the left, while in left-handed people, it is the right. The reason for this inversion is that the motor pathways of the nervous system cross over to the other side of the body as they go down the spinal cord. Thus the movements of one side of the body are controlled by the hemisphere on the opposite side.
About 9 out of 10 adults are right-handed. This proportion seems to have remained stable over many thousands of years and in all cultures in which it has been studied

No at all, I've just related what you said about born with from a scientists views . scientists according to your post said that 9 out 10 adults (not childs) are right handed, and I said that scientists said the same thing about gays adults as well (not childs) ....I'll let you think !

Scientists say that 9 out of 10 gays are right handed? rotfl
Btw., it's "children", not "childs".

Salaam,
I think it will be very nice if the debate can proceed without one ridiculing one's language skills, be it English or Arabic. It's unnecessary and will only make things worse.
Sorry for being off topic.
grabs a popcorn and continues watching the debate
Salaam.
