    Peace everyone

I'm wondering what opinion people here have on the matter of sins that are repeated. Say a person struggles with a particular sin - could be anger, could be greed, could be anything. Every time the person commits this sin, he or she asks forgiveness, but finds him/herself returning to the same sin over and over. I've seen some argue that since this person fails to reform and stop sinning, the sin will not be forgiven. Others say that as long as you seek forgiveness, the sin will be forgiven.

What is your opinion? Is there a limit of sorts to the amount of times someone can repent for the same sin until the repentance is no longer accepted?

    Peace

      Peace brother.
      Nice to hear from you.
      There are two things here.
      1- A particular sin.
2- An addiction to this sin.

Otherwise one would deliberately commit sins and repeats if the outcome is always forgiveness.
One would then assume the person cannot help it. They are addicted.
This will come under something requiring a cure. So GOD says
Exempted are those who repent, believe, and lead a righteous life. God transforms their sins into hasanat. God is Forgiver, Most Merciful.
Those who repent and lead a righteous life, God redeems them; a complete redemption.
      وَمَن تابَ وَعَمِلَ صٰلِحًا فَإِنَّهُ يَتوبُ إِلَى اللَّهِ مَتابًا

The complete redemption requires working with GOD through the repentance to help one overcome the addiction. GOD cures everything.

If one is repeating a sin and does nothing about both the sin and the addiction then they are not honest or sincere with themselves and GOD.
      My understanding.
      GOD bless you.
      Peace.

Those who always forgive will always be forgiven
So the 'limit' is set by his/her own self.
Not only the limit in 'frequency' but also the limit of what kind of thing that he/she can forgive.

          Salam Wanderer,

From Quran, we are informed that there are certain conditions in which God will not forgive.

          For examples
Those who have rejected after their belief, then increased in rejection, their repentance will not be accepted, they are the strayers.

Those who believed, then rejected, then believed, then rejected, then they increased in rejection; God was not to forgive them nor to guide them to the path.

But from our point of view as humans, we really don't know whether we are among those in such group (whom God will not forgive). Therefore, as long as our consciousness is there, as long as we realize we are sinful, then seek forgiveness from God.

And those who, if they commit immorality, or wrong themselves, they remember God and seek forgiveness for their sins. And who can forgive the sins except God? And they do not persist in what they have done while they know.

After all, who else can forgive except God?

          Wassalam,
