Salam brothers and sisters,I really need some assurance. I am fairly new to Islam my journey has been over two years now. I work with Sunnis who have been helpful in journey, at times very confusing as a lot of their views are based on Hadith. I don't believe in the Hadith, if Allah had wanted anything more in the Quran it would be in there. For the first time I tried to pray at work ( the midmost prayer ) and my friend said it was wrong because I didn't wear hijab. I don't believe we are ordered by Allah to wear a covering on our heads. We should dress modestly, covering our private parts and not show off our breasts. This has really pushed me back, I want to take the time with my Creator but I don't want to deal with the negativity from my coworkers over a piece of cloth. Part of me feels I should just keepto myself and pray at home.

Of course you don't have to wear a hijab, you're a journeyman, not a woman. Hijab is for pretty people. Like me... that's why I only show one eye! rotfl

But then again... the quran does say women are supposed to have a "khimar", but of course, you're a journeyman not a journeywoman.

Here are some questions from me (a person who is trying to follow Quran alone but it's very difficult due to various interpretations of the basic ritualistic practices - not only rituals but also some general questions about the way of life of a muslim based upon Quran only)
The different tendencies I discovered throughout my trip inside the Quran alone followers group
-There are those who support 2 types of Salat in the Quran (the physical act)
-There are those who support 3 types of Salat in the Quran (the physical act)
-There are those who support 4 types of Salat in the Quran (the physical act)
-There are those who support 5 types of Salat in the Quran (the physical act)
-There are those who even don't know how many rakaats (units) there are in a Salat (the physical act)
-There are those who pretend that one can do as many rakaat (units) as wanted there is no limit (only time limit)
-There are those who pretend that Hajj is only an event of gathering
-There are those who pretend that Hajj is a pagan form of ritual
-There are those who pretend that Sol-laa (Salat), Siyam, Hajj, Zakat are not what they shoud be because of some linguistics distorsions (For example, read Aidid Safar's Thesis)
-There are those who believe in a huge conspiracy from Persians or from Pagan Arabs to distord original Islam (Shabbir Ahmad, Aidid Safar and their likes)The above list is not exhaustive, we can add other odd sorts of Quran alone followers.
I sincerelly think that "Follow Quran Alone" is another sect like those we can encounter in Islam that came into existence because of the lack of rational reasoning in muslim cercles all around the world, because of the incompatibality between traditionnal Islam and secular world, shortly it's only a response to a precise situation of the chaotic muslim world who has some difficulty to emerge in this new century due to its dependency of religious scholars and their restricted thoughts based on book's about prohetic traditions. In other words, the existence of this sect can be understandable by the absence of any major critical study of the "Authentic Books of Traditions" (ie. 18th-19th centuries muslim scholars like Rashid Rida, Muhamad Abduh). This problem occures more in a restrictive Sunni milieu than a Shiite one because actually the Shiite scholarly environment give more oppotunities to critic their own doctrines on the basis of "continuous ijtihad" in the field of islamic law, islamic history etc.
My first multiple-question is After the death of Prophet Muhammad until the reign of Umar Abd al-Aziz during which the first ahadiths book was compiled by Ibn Shihab al-Zuhri according to Ibn Hajar, what type of Islam, the muslim were following ? There were no one book of ahadiths, only Quran. So, how did muslim pray ? What amount of zakat did they give ? How did they do Hajj ? How did they do Fast ?
I will ask other questions later.

with all due Respect.Read The Quran. Try to find where are women told to wear the hijab. If you discover that hijabs are necessary then you can see that the person from work was right.
However, if you don't find the hijab being necessary according to The Quran, then you can ask this person from work this question6836 What is wrong with you, how do you judge?

Sadly, there are many people in the Ummah who believe it is their right to "give advice", regardless of whether it is welcome / appreciated or not, and who don't believe others have a right to their own opinions. But this is not only a problem between Sunnis and "Qur'an only" Muslims; it happens to others too. You might cover your head in prayer, for example, and someone might come and tell you the prayer was invalid because you didn't cover your feet, or because you didn't do so and so.
Personally, I find it pretty audacious to tell a person they are praying "wrongly", or that their prayer will not be accepted. If someone approached me in such a way, I would most likely just thank them for their input but say that I prefer to pray / do whatever the way I feel right, and then I'd close the subject. If someone is seriously interested in your opinion and wants to have a real discussion with you, then fine. But I would not waste my energy trying to justify myself to each and everyone.

If your friend tells you to cover your head... it's not likely you're going to get sin for doing so, is it?

No, it says to use your khimar to cover your bosom, the meaning is to cover the bosom. If it said use your tablecloth to cover your bed does it mean you have to have a tablecloth or that you should cover your bed?

did you talk to your friend? maybe you could share your belief with them? considering your new to islam they might be all judgemental and act superior. unfortunately some people like to assume people are ignorant and don't know and think it's their place to say what's right and wrong.
Maybe just say thanks for the advice but i believe differently?

This ordering around of women in particular as if they should always have to "pay" in someway to be in order is one reason why I don't go to mosques unless I am completely assured that I will not be ordered around like a rebelious child, that is, put in my place, and disguise myself in order to pray.
As far as I know, the Prophet did always cover his head and particularly while praying. Why do not they go ordering men around and being bossy with them?
This kind of jokes for me goes too far. Is it that women must always be concerned with clothes and nothing else? One gets sick of the whole thing.

No, it says to use your khimar to cover your bosom, the meaning is to cover the bosom. If it said use your tablecloth to cover your bed does it mean you have to have a tablecloth or that you should cover your bed?
Table aren't connected to beds.
What's a khimar according to the definitions provided in the dictionary and the uses in arabic? Surely you wouldn't hide things like the rabbis did?
