Dear All, so far, I am unable to find word Quraish, in the Lexicon of the language. A real surprise, isn't it. Hence the question, did a tribe named Quraish ever exsisted?

    Badar

    Sura Quraish

    Surah 1061

Let each acknowledge the truth and become associated with those who investigate modes or manners of existence and of its effects, for acquiring knowledge of their conditions and properties, for your benefit.

    Surah 1062

All you who acknowledge the truth and saddle with them in your journey, both in troubled seasons, as well in times of ease.

    Surah 1063

The advantage of all worshipers shall be broken. This is the principle verse from your Sustainer, Maintainer, Foster and Accomplisher.

    Surah 1064

One who provided for them whenever they desired and were hungry. As well as secured and safe guarded them, whenever they were frightened or terrified.

Read under the Root and then see these excerpts

      Restatement of History of Islam

Banu Hashim - Before the Birth of Islam

In the fifth century A.D. a man called Qusay, was born in the tribe of Quraysh. He won great honor and fame for his tribe by his wisdom. He rebuilt the Kaaba which was in a state of disrepair, and he ordered the Arabs to build their houses around it. He also built the "town hall" of Makkah, the first one in Arabia. The leaders of the various clans gathered in this hall to ponder upon their social, commercial, cultural and political problems. Qusay formulated laws for the supply of food and water to the pilgrims who came to Makkah, and he persuaded the Arabs to pay a tax for their support.

      Edward Gibbon

Qusay, born about A.D. 400, the great-grandfather of Abdul-Muttalib, and consequently fifth in the ascending line from Mohammed, obtained supreme power at Mecca. (The decline and fall of the Roman Empire)

Qusay died in A.D. 480, and his son, Abd Manaf, took charge of his duties. He too distinguished himself by his ability. He was noted for his generosity and good judgment. He was succeeded by his son Hashim. It was this Hashim who gave his name to the clan which became famous in history as Banu Hashim.Hashim was an extraordinary man. It was he who made the Quraysh merchants and merchant princes. He was the first man who instituted the two caravan journeys of Quraysh, summer and winter, and the first to provide thareed (broth) to the Arabs. But for him, the Arabs might have remained shepherds forever.

Enlightened and benevolent leadership and generosity were only two out of many qualities which Muhammad, the future prophet, "inherited" from his fore-fathers. Hashim was married to a woman of Yathrib and from her he had a son ? Abdul Muttalib. In due course, Abdul Muttalib was to succeed his father as the chief of the clan of Hashim.

Peace,Dear Mazhar, thanks for that information. I was born in a Muslim family, hence told all this history. There is no root in Lane. G.A Pervaiz is the only one who in his Lughat claims this root with out very authentic references. Write up is also very scanty.

Dear Mazhar, please remeber this Lane, translated Arabic Lexicons, into English in 1800s. This was done with the help of most authentic Arabic lexicons of the time, including Lisan ul Arab. Please, pay attention to your edition.

              Peace,

Are you still suggesting that this Root is not there with Lane? Perhaps the Edition with me is the same that is with you as you keep giving the link of its pages. It seems he initially forgot to mention or include it.Now see Supplement to Parts VII and VIII in Vol-8 at page 240 to find this Root.

Thanks for the referance. If you did not read it carefully, here is the link for you and other readers as well. Please show me the mention of word , as a noun, as we know it to refer to a tribe. A very famous noun and tribe supposedly. The root only talks about a verb. "HE ACQUIRED, EARNED, GAINED AND COLLETED FOR HIS FAMILY". A noun from such a verb, would be "AN EARNER" etc. Where is the mention of the tribe?

For the whole day you kept insisting that Lane did not mention this Root. Finally I gave you the page number earlier telling that he has not mentioned Quraish, having been mentally exhausted as is evident from his just scratching about Roots he earlier omitted.

You thought he had before him all the Lexicons as claimed in his preamble. I gave you the quote from Lexicons. Did you check that. It is matter of common sense, which you call ABC of Arabic that in Possessive Phrase only NOUNS are used. And in your own translation Quraish has been treated as Noun and defined as "associated with those who investigate". So you do treat them a "group of people". And that "group of people"/tribe/community is mentioned and specified by a singular Noun Qraish.

Peace, I do want to acknowledge my mistake in saying that root does not exsist in Lane, instead of saying that word ,does not exsist under the root. However, this does not change the fact that word is missing from the most authentic lexicon translated from most authentic and original ancient Arabic original lexicons. That was the original question posted. "Had ever a tribe named Quriash exsisted?"

                      Peace,

                      Badar
