Surely it is better for them to be married in a Mosque or a Church than just by a civil authority which would have been their only other alternative.

As a God-alone Christian, I can see nothing wrong with a Muslim marrying a Christian. We both worship the same God, just in slightly different ways.

Well I still have yet to read anything that specifically addresses the issue which I originally spoke about. There was a verse posted about testing the women that come to us. Nonetheless, I simply want to know if a muslim woman can marry outside of her religion. If yes, I would like to see supporting verses from the holy Koran. If not, I would also like to see supporting verses. I do apologize if I am bothering anyone with this, but I really would like to get to the bottom of this.

Why keep looking for a law to tell you what your heart knows?

Ask yourself this Who is bumsarama if all he is is a rule follower? You will live and die by that question.

              Peace

              In a discourse in chapter 5 of what is lawful it is stated at one point;

"Today, the good things have been made lawful to you, the food of those who have been given the book is lawful for you, and your food is lawful for them; and the acknowledging independent women, and the independent women from the people of the book before you, when you have given them their wages, protected, chaste, and not seeking to take lovers. Whoever rejects acknowledgement, then his work has fallen, and in the Hereafter he is of the losers."

However, there are instances pointed out of amanu married to kafirun . Amanu are those who avoid suspicion and gossip and their hearts are opened to remembering God and the truth of al/kitab .

Perhaps he seeks to adhere to God's judgement. He does not have to, but if he chooses to than as such he'd be a true mumin rather than adopting a description that's false.

Hopefully he does listen to God and not use some 'judgement' to ruin his family or a friendship. Life is too short. Asking what is the law on this and what is the law on that is soul crushing in the end. Imagine if he decides to not be another's persons friend (or worse) simply because they married the 'wrong' man according to a book. As I said life is too short. I guess you do think apostates should be killed?

Key words here is "he decides". Imagine if he let you decide for him that he should not do what you think is soul crushing.

To what end? I'm not sure where that one came from in a thread about marriage.

Sorry about that last statement, I just got angry at how insane I find it to be asking what is the law in regards to marrying someone. Even worse he isn't asking for himself. He is asking about women and might potentially use that to judge 1/2 the world. I just think that the law is for criminals. So asking for a law in regards to marriage seems weird.

There is no end to sharia law Joe and it scares me. It is so easy for a muslim in the west to be a free mind or to be a free mind in private but when the sharia police come for you they will declare you never were a muslim and you were breaking various sharia laws. Why not have one law - love others as you would love yourself. That's all God ever really asked us to do.

Well marriage is a contract. Would you get just as angry if someone asked what the law for marriage was in NY?

Even worse he isn't asking for himself.

So what? I might see someone steal a baby's candy. Can I ask if that's wrong?

He is asking about women and might potentially use that to judge 1/2 the world.

We all judge through our lens.

I just think that the law is for criminals.

Hmmm, was the draft for criminals? Or the age at which one can vote?

So asking for a law in regards to marriage seems weird.

I'd suppose so if I were in your shoes.

There is no end to sharia law Joe and it scares me.

This site does not endorse sharia.

It is so easy for a muslim in the west to be a free mind or to be a free mind in private but when the sharia police come for you they will declare you never were a muslim and you were breaking various sharia laws.

I think some of us would certainly not be muslimeen according to their teachings, that's fine. The judgement we seek is from the book .

Why not have one law - love others as you would love yourself.

Let's not be hypocrites and ask why should people look to some law unless it's your one law.

That's all God ever really asked us to do.

According to the quran one is free to acknowledge or not .

                            Peace and welcome

The problem lies in viewing muslim and islam as labels or titles, when they are in fact common, descriptive nouns. Therefore, a 'christian' could very well be a muslim. As Joe has intricately pointed out in reply #2, kafir/the-so-called-disbelievers are not simply 'non-muslims' (pardon the double negative).

                              According to 'sectarian' rules...
A woman of certain 'sect' cannot marry somebody outside of her 'sect'. unless he converted to her 'sect'.
If it is the woman decided to convert to 'another sect', then she is guity of 'apostasy' and subjected to dire punishment ranging from; banishment/exile to honour killing.

This is to keep the 'sect pure from 'infidel influences'...

Now you can change "SECT" word on the above to any name of the sect such as SUNNI, SHIITE, CATHOLIC, JW, 7DA, MORMONS, ORTHODOX, HAREDI JUDAISM, ORTHODOX JUDAISM.. and the list goes on and on..

                              Salam / Peace

a muslim man or a woman cannot marry a christian (one who believes Jesus is son of God and in the trinity). the christians referred to in the Koran are those who believed Jesus is son of Mary and a messenger from God.

if i had to choose between a man who is a christian as per the koran (doesn't believe in the trinity) and a hadith follower - surely, it will be more 'islamic' for me to marry a man who is a monotheist than a man who believes God + hadiths.

I agree with most of this reply. Unfortunately many Christians have misunderstood the bible and have taken the word "son" literally. Throughout the bible it uses the word "son" to mean "descendant of", i.e. Jesus being the son of David. Well of course he wasn't literally the son of David, he was a descendant on David. In two of the four gospels it gives the linage of Jesus ending in "...... was the son of Seth, who was the son of Adam, who was the son of God". Therefore, Jesus was the son of God because he was a descendant of Adam, as we all are according to the old testament. I believe, as you do, that Jesus was a prophet and messenger.

By trinity doesn't it mean that trinitian christians are still monotheists because they believe 3 is one? !

Well that certainly applies to most. Even if they believe Jesus was God (which I don't), the belief is actually that he was God in human form (still the one God) and that the holy spirit is God's influence that touches us. So when they say "God the father, God the son and God the holy spirit" they are only talking about three different manifestations of the one God. The biggest difference (in belief) between mainstream Christians and others is the belief that Jesus was God who came to Earth and took human form. Many modern day Christians now reject that idea.
