      Salaams,
      here you go,

      Salawaat=Advice/councel(pl) ? I think.

      Masaajido=(submissions)/(Allah?s)Acts carried out.

      2240
      BIYAc which is usually translated as a church/synagogue

      same word throughout the quran e.g 2437 and 1431 and 2.254 so on.

      is actually translated as a SALE OR BARGAINING.

      SAWAMEUN - much or often abstaining.

      La-HHada-Matt =Not ?Guided-would have been

      These are from lanes lxicon and qd.

      Hence nothing physical is being demolished.

      HHADAYA= GUIDANCE (Lanes and qd)

      LAHHAD - DECLINED / DEVIATED / FROM THE RIGHT COURSE

      MAT - HE EXTENDED , or STRECTCHED OUT

      • HE DREW , OR DREW UP

      (from lanes)

      2239 ,Permission is given to those who have been wronged(to fight)-----------who have been expelled from their homes---------

      2240 ,---------And if it where not for mankind (in these cases)standing against one another ,then (you) would not receive benefits(of the guidance) from abstaining,bargaining,salawaat and submissions wherein Allahs name is mentioned much---------

      Salaams,Bye.

          Peace,

          This doesn't make sense at all!

          How does

          translate to "synagogues"?

          Even the choice of "oratories" in alternative translations raise the question is this deliberately intended to make "masjid" sounds like a place of traditional worship?

          And how does

          translate to "churches"?

            Salaam,

            Since you mentioned it, that made me wonder too. I am curious as to how is translated as synagogue? I just looked up an Arabic dictionary and found that the Arabic for synagogue is . Well, I find that more believable than because the Hebrew for synagogue is beyt ha-k?neset (House of the Convention, if translated literally). I don't know if we can rely on that, but I find Arabic and Hebrew to be quite similar (and for this case, the word seems to share the same root words).

            Anyway, I am inclined to think that the translation intends to make masjiid the place of worship.

            Salaam.

              peace all,

              I noticed this too. It does seem odd.

              The word
              http//corpus.quran.com/qurandictionary.jsp?root=hdm#(22401
              is only used once and is in the passive perfect, meaning the object receives the action expressed in the verb. In Lane's Lexicon it is commonly applied to buildings it seems. However the meaning of "overturn" is interesting.

              AFAIK "synagogue" is a classical arabic meaning listed in a dictionary, but it would be interesting to see if there is any evidence other than that.
              "salawaatun" is used in the exact same form in 2157. I guess it could be argued context differentiates meaning.

              I think a more detailed look in other Classical Arabic dictionaries would help and a clarification of the grammar form, i.e. they are the plural of what form(s).

              Tentative possibilities could be
              awmiu ~ abstention/abstinence-periods
              biyaun ~ markets/sales/contracts
              alawtun ~ bonds/blessings
              masjidu ~ implemented acknowledgements/recognitions

              All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                I see 'salawat' here as links made. Whether between people, institutions or anything else. The Quran doesn't speak of religious houses of worship at all.
