Forbidden unto you (for food) are carrion and blood and swineflesh, and that which hath been dedicated unto any other than Allah, and the strangled, and the dead through beating, and the dead through falling from a height, and that which hath been killed by (the goring of) horns, and the devoured of wild beasts, saving that which ye make lawful (by the death-stroke), and that which hath been immolated unto idols. And (forbidden is it) that ye swear by the divining arrows. This is an abomination. This day are those who disbelieve in despair of (ever harming) your religion; so fear them not, fear Me! This day have I perfected your religion for you and completed My favour unto you, and have chosen for you as religion
al-Islam. Whoso is forced by hunger, not by will, to sin (for him) lo! Allah is Forgiving, Merciful.

    Dear Brothers Salaam

A questioner quotes the above (53) verse to ask if Deen was completed/perfected (as shown above) then why did revelation continue for many more verses ? Chapter 5 has 120 verses!!

    Any ideas?

Thanks and coming Eid Festivities (celebrated to mark coming down of the Qur'an) Mubarak!!

    Wassalaam

    Mubashir

      Salam brother,

your inquiry opens more questions like

      • is the Quran in the true order
      • was the Quran revealed in parts or as a book

I remember reading somewhere that the first few chapters outline ahkam (laws/rules) and out of all the verses only (roughly) 250-300 are rulings. I don't know how accurate that is.. i'm just going by memory though possibly the path was perfected through the instructions of ahkam? or rather the end of instructions of ahkam?

Peace and eid mubarak to you too

        peace all,

        One may wish to ask

        what is deen?
        what does completed/perfected mean?
what is the order of the verses? (and chapters)

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

Verse 53 could well be the last verse to be revealed...
