    Salaams to all,

i too am a seeker of knowledge. i come from a mixed background; my mother is Christian (now practicing) and my dad is Muslim (not really "practicing" and never really did). i put "practicing" in quotes because although my dad doesn't do the rituals of religious practice (pray, fast, etc.), his daily acts of charity, morality, gentle kindness and love for humankind is "practicing" in my eyes. i believe that Allah is the final judge, not us. i began looking into Islam in college and have been practicing and seeking knowledge about Islam ever since. i started wearing hijab several years ago but recently took it off; i think there is a lot of gray area there and i couldn't do it anymore.

i'm married to a Sunni Muslim; we have several children. i am exploring all aspects of Islam, because i truly believe that the Hadiths which so many Muslims follow is what divides us. i'm not sure i reject all of them, because i do think there are some that coincide with Qur'anic teachings. but i do see lots of problems with MANY of them.

anyway, i've been lurking for a while; i had trouble registering about a month ago, but it seems to have worked this time, and i'm glad.

i look forward to many fruitful discussions with all of you.

welcome I think that Hadith are fine as a secondary source along with history etc. But definitely should not be used to overrule the Quran.

                Welcome searching one welcome

                I'm new here too.

"i'm not sure i reject all of them, because i do think there are some that coincide with Qur'anic teachings." - I feel that way as well.

But it does make sense that some of the hadith would be correct...I mean they can't all be wrong. It's just in the absence of being able to tell for sure which are wrong and which are correct PLUS the fact that Quran tells us to follow Allah only and his message as brought by the Prophet Muhammad...then I found it very hard to keep on following them.

Reminds me of this I read

Of the books in the great pre-Islamic library at Alexandria the caliph Umar is alleged to have said, "If they are in accordance with the Quran, they are superfluous, and if they are contrary to the Quran, they are dangerous, and so in either case they may be destroyed".

Perhaps gives us an idea why he systematically collected and burned hadith collections! ;D

All information is correct to the best of my knowledge only and thus should not be taken as a fact. One should always seek knowledge and verify for themselves when possible: 17:36, 20:114, 35:28, 49:6, 58:11.

                          Put your trust in God.

3159 It was a mercy from God that you were soft towards them; had you been harsh and mean hearted, they would have dispersed from you; so pardon them and ask forgiveness for them, and consult them in the matter; but when you are convinced, then put your trust in God; for God loves those who put their trust.
3160 If God grants you victory then none can defeat you, and if He abandons you then who can grant you victory after Him? And towards God the believers should put their trust.
3173 The ones who the people said to them The people have gathered against you, so be concerned by them, but it only increased their faith and they said God is sufficient for us, and He is the best to put our trust in.

                          God bless you.
                          Peace. sun
